Ugh...I don't like either team. But I am glad to see a team with as much or more size down low so that they can shut down Hans-blah-blah. I don't like Hans-blah-blah.

Kinda hoping Ty Hanslawson gets his scoring record in this game, so he won't be getting it against us if we're in the final.

This game has been hideous to watch so far. FSU is playing solid defense on UNC, but FSU can't score at all, through minimal fault of UNC (other than Ed Davis).

So uh.... how is a ball that hits the backboard and then gets swatted not a goaltend?

FerryFor50
03-14-2009, 02:59 PM
What does the tornado last year have to do with anything during this tourny?

CDu
03-14-2009, 03:02 PM
The announcers (across the board) have been terrible so far in the tourney. Case in point: FSU just had a layup attempt "blocked" by Davis. If I'm not mistaken, they changed the rule this year to be if the ball hits the glass first, it's a goaltend. In this case, the ball clearly hit the glass first. They show the replay, and no mention of the missed call - just praise of Davis's defense.

This is just one of many examples in which the announcers have avoided saying anything to question bad calls made by the officials. I'm always annoyed by this for some reason.

Other than that, this game is pretty much to be expected. UNC is working the ball inside and drawing fouls. FSU's interior defense has been somewhat effective at times. Ellington is hitting shots, which is big for them. FSU got hot for a bit, but they're probably going to need this game to stay in the 60s to have a good chance to win. They're really reliant on Douglas today, as usual.

And as I say they'll need to keep it in the 60s, FSU is at 60 with 8:30 to go. Douglas has been on fire, but they're really relying on perimeter jumpers at the moment.

haha yeah
Its too loud to be a game in the Dean Dome...

Anyone feel like they can't go two possessions without fouling someone? Oh, and shouldn't we be getting the "Psycho T: Greatest Basketball Player of All-Time countdown to breaking Redick's record" by the announcers soon?

This has been one of his better performances offensively. But yes, he's definitely a first-team guy. And his close second in the POY race is warranted as well. The kid is a fantastic basketball player.

Well, no, that's not quite true. They've pushed on to Paulus over the last three years as king flopper. But Hansbrough flops as much as any player in the ACC. The only guy who flopped more in the last few years was Deron Washington from VT.

Paulus, to me, doesn't flop so much. But he does tend to try to draw charges on dunks, which always ends up in him getting posterized.

I've also seen the Youtube of him falling before getting touched, though...

Paulus definitely flops. He also tries to take charges. The YouTube video is one of many times in my memory that he's flopped. But that's neither here nor there.

I don't have a problem when people say Paulus flops - he does. My problem is when people say that as if nobody else does it either.

Someone needs to remind these clowns you can't have it both ways. Either they are a very deep team and can compensate for Lawson not being there or they aren't a very deep team and can't compensate for the loss of Lawson.

I cannot stand TH, but after tearing my ACL and going through the rehab afterwards... I would never wish that upon my worst enemy!

Hansbrough is a tough worker and he is a great player. He gets too many calls and travels a lot, but like JJ, you have to admire his ability to score points.

After reading through all the post, it was surprising to see no-one really point out how well FSU played in the second half.
They hit some big, tough shots time and again, and were active and played big in the post. Their defense was tough too.

I hate a UNC loss as much as you guys love it, but I can live with this one.
UNC started a back up point guard, played two freshmen significant minutes, and suffered through a shooting slump from Green, one of the best team shooters.
And still had a chance to win it...

The credit for this game should go to how well FSU played.

Good luck against MD.

I think it helps that UNC could find no real continuity on offense due to Ty being out. I don't think FSU played THAT great, other than hitting wide open 3s. This loss wasn't unexpected - UNC didn't need to win the tourny, so they elected to rest Ty instead.

Yeah, falls because he slipped on the floor in his socks, not because he's trying to get an opponent called for a foul.

The word "flop" doesn't have to be an intentional act.
