Scott came up in two threads last week, one on ACC POY voting and one on best players against Duke.

So this should be timely. Might bring back some bad memories for us old-timers but it was an extraordinary performance.

You are right, it brings back a bad memory of my freshman year. Scott was unbelievable against us, and then he did the same thing to Davidson to get the Heels to the Final Four. Thanks for posting this article!

If you recall, Charlie was always "Charles" while at Chapel Hill. Dean always said he preferred Charles.

i thought the story went that Dean asked him if he preferred Charles or Charlie and he said Charles so that's what Dean called him

FWIW, Scott told me that either Charles or Charlie is okay with him. His teammates called and still call him Charlie and he was known as Charlie in public at the time.

So, I elected to go with Charlie.

no worries Mr. Sumner. Was just recalling that I had heard that somewhere (I think it's in Mr. Jacobs' book)

Whatever his name is, the last time I heard of him he was booted out of coaching in a rec league in Atlanta for screaming at the kids and parents in the stands.

Thanks for the article, Jim.

Scott's performance in that 1969 ACC final still ranks as one of the finest individual games I've seen by an ACC player.

I do not know what he did in Atlanta but my son was reffing a game in Columbia at the Siuth Carolina summer camp Scott was there as a coach. He got angry at a call and charged the court using all sorts of profanity and my son tossed him. Scott confronted him after the game and had to be escorted out of the gym by security. My son thought he was going to hit him. My son then asked me who he was. After he found out who he was he said that that that SCOTT had hit him so he could have kicked his butt

I had forgotten that Scott was a member of the 1968 USA Olympic basketball team, which won a gold medal under Coach Iba. Really not a star-studded roster.

I'm currently coaching 13-15 year olds in a Navy MWR league so don't expect me to look down on Charlie Scott even if what you say is true. My players deserve to be yelled at and their parents do not show up to games.
