That's quite a story from the past. Employed in the mortgage business in the Dallas area? Hard to imagine considering his academic preparation.

I don't have a good explanation, but he had a very problematical season to say the least. He was a high school standout (26.5 PPG as a senior at Miami High, which has one of the strongest programs in the state), so UM really wanted him since they need to lock down local talent. (BTW, Maryland's Steve Blake once went to Miami High, although he was kicked off the team because people finally realized he didn't live in the area and had been recruited by their former coach.)

Nevertheless, in college he looked (at least to me) undersized and a bit out of his league in the ACC, although I don't know if that would have improved over time. He was finally kicked off the team in mid-January because he basically left the team and the coaches couldn't get a hold of him:

So first he lost his scholarship and now he will be kicked out of school. Doh!

BTW, it turns out that he was even ripping off other students in his dorm who lived on the same floor as he did:

Another (-ex) Miami hoopster with disciplinary issues was in the news over the weekend. Remember Denis Clemente? A native of Puerto Rico who played his high school ball in Miami and played for the Hurricanes. He was suspended around the end of the 2007 season and ended up transferring to Kansas State (talk about a change....from Puerto Rico/Miami to Manahattan, KS)

Well, Clemente just hit for 44 points against Texas over the weekend.

Bad luck for the 'Canes, or some bad recruiting choices?
