On the positive front, the next coach will potentially inherit an excellent recruiting class and a verbal from a top 10 junior.

Wow... Vincent stayed 2 years at Duke. I hope the athletic department does look for a Duke guy this time around.

On a side note, will OD take Andrew Giuliani with him to work on his staff at UDub?

That wasn't long.

From Duke media release.

"DURHAM, N.C. - Duke University Vice President & Director of Athletics Kevin White announced on Sunday that O.D. Vincent has retired as head coach of the Duke men's golf team and Ryan Ressa will assume all day-to-day coaching responsibilities for the program. Vincent has retired from coaching to return to his alma mater, the University of Washington, to become a senior associate director of athletics.

"Leaving our team, Duke University and the coaching profession is the most difficult decision I have ever faced," said Vincent. "I feel blessed to have coached the sport I love for the past 13 years. I feel so good about the future of our program here at Duke and the future of the young men on the team. I will miss everyone a great deal and always look back on my time at Duke with tremendous fondness." "

This is amazing. My wife's company just filed for bankruptcy, see LandAmerica Financial, so we're in somewhat dire straits, now this comes available, holy sheepsh*t batman, are you kidding me? My dream job has reappeared, I'm ready. Oz, I'll need at least one assistant;)

Durham, be prepared, thanks for this news, I'm in shock. Happy Xmas all, Chuck

Though his coaching career likely is over, Vincent did not rule out a future role in which he would be involved with college golf.

“I love the sport, and golf will always be part of my life,” he said.

Duke officials said their goal is to hire a men’s golf coach by Jan. 7, the first day of the spring semester. Assistant coach Ryan Ressa will continue in his same capacity and be responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the Duke golf program.

“Ryan has done a terrific job with the program,” White said. “Our golf team is in very good hands during this time of transition, and we fully expect the program to continue to thrive and grow under his direction.”

January 7th, sheesh. The Mrs. gave me permission tonight to "go for it," so I will. Any help from anyone in DBR land will be greatly appreciated. I'll make phone calls tomorrow. I AM WORTHY!!

I copied you on the email I sent to Kevin White recommending you, and sent you a copy of the reply I got from Mike Sobb. They have your phone numbers and email address.

Green led the 49ers to their first NCAA regional in 2005. In 2006, the 49ers finished 22nd at the NCAA Championship. The next season, the team matched the school’s highest NCAA finish in any sport when it tied for third at the NCAA Championship. In 2007-08, the 49ers were the No. 1 team in the country after the fall, a first for any 49ers sport. Charlotte tied for eighth at the 2008 NCAA Championship. It won Atlantic-10 titles in each of the last three years.
