hmmm interesting, not that I take much stock in rankings...especially when certain schools jump 20 spots in a single year (e.g. Michigan). Some of these figures are perplexing. How the heck, for example, does University of Wisconsin receive a 94 on peer review, while Dartmouth got a 64? Madison is certainly a good school, but nowhere near as prestigious as Dartmouth. Dartmouth is way way below UT-Austin, IL, UC-San Diego, and Univ of Washington in Peer Review. Although they make up that discrepancy in employee scores. But I want to know how is reviewing these schools. And what does international staff score mean? I'd assume it's just the pct of international staff members there are. That kills Duke with only a 30, although this only accounts for 5%. Also, Australian National University ahead of Stanford?!? Anyways, it's always fun to look at, but doesn't make much sense in many cases.

Not strictly as an undergraduate school (or b-school), sure, but this seems to be an overall university ranking. Madison has a regionally impressive law school, a great medical school, and some pretty powerful research departments.

Plus, it looks like this (from the student union):

It would be interesting to see the criteria though.

Wisconsin should be quite a bit ahead of Dartmouth when it comes to being a university, as should several other large state UNIVERSITIES; Dartmouth's few graduate programs just don't compete with places like Texas, UCSD, or Washington. On the other hand, Stanford at 17 and Berkeley at 36 undercut the survey's credibility; these should both be top 10, imho, and any set of criteria that puts them out of the top 15 is suspect.

By the way, if I'm remembering correctly, a few years ago, we jumped about 50 places in one year, so Michigan's 20 place jump seems fine by me.

I exaggerated.

We jumped 41 places between 2004 and 2005, according to the Bible of Information:
