Let's never hear about another Duke player flopping to pick up a charge. The granddaddy of all flops has just been performed by Tyler at the nine minute mark of the first half in the UNC/USC game. He had two fouls already and should be sitting right now with his third. Someone needs to get this one on YouTube because it's insane. He started falling before he was touched. In fact, I'm not sure the player with the ball ever did touch him, but he went down with gusto and got the charge call. It was truly pathetic.

About 1 minute left in the first half, and USC is outplaying UNC. Heels fans must be screaming at the TV, because Packer is slurping USC big time.

USC is impressive. They are fast, good from outside and solid defenders. Right around this time last year I started enjoying UCLA, and made a point to watch some of their games this year. With Mayo coming in the fall, I definitely want to watch USC next year.

Crap. Am I becoming a PAC-10 fan? I need to get something for that.

.8 in the half, USC up by 9.

Go Trojans!

Yes, and Southern Cal is looking pretty good. UNC seems to be in trouble. It would be satisfying to see their season end too.

UNC has met its worst nightmare: a team that can play just as fast, if not faster, than them.

Nice.

It is amazing how quickly Psycho T. becomes an ordinary player when the refs are willig to call fouls and travelling. He has been a complete non-factor in the first half because the refs haven't allowed him to run people over and take 3 steps in the low post.

Lots of basketball left to be played.

UNC should win if they focus a bit. USC is playing 6 guys and should wear down. I think both their big guys have 2 fouls as well so they might spend the second half in foul trouble if UNC starts going inside more consistently.

Troublemaker

With that said, Roy plays too many effing players. When USC pushed the lead out, UNC's lineup on the floor included Miller, Frasor, Ginyard, Wright, and Thompson.

Ralph-Wiggum
03-23-2007, 11:07 PM
Roy was playing QT, Frasor, and Miller more than usual because Lawson had 2 fouls and Terry's been sick. That said, I'd rather Green or Ginyard be in there instead of Miller (who hasn't had his shot all year). I would be surprised if Lawson and Hansbrough sit for more than a minute or two in the second half, though (assuming they don't get into further foul trouble).

With that said, Va Tech and NC State handled Carolina playing not many more men. I concur with your second point though: Carolina might be deep, but their second five is a huge dropoff from the first.

Should be a game that comes down to the wire.

Q. Thomas and Bobby Frasor are both liabilities and need to have their butts glued to the bench. Danny Green, Marcus Ginyard (started today), Deon Thompson and Alex Stephenson are quality bench players. Wes Miller is in between, he has a great shot but that's about all.

Eh, maybe not 12, but UNC's gonna do what all the other teams have done throughout this tourney. Underacheive during 95% of the game and then turn it on in the last few minutes and hit clutch shots to win the game.

In the region final, Michigan had 2.1 seconds left and tossed a fullcourt pass to their trombonist who beat Tennessee with a perfect squawk at 0:00.2.

LSU and Clemson canceled each other out in a black hole of suck.

No, they didn't score the 20 points but they certainly had some assists. The quick fouls on Gibson took USC's rhythm and confidence. UNC had several offensive put-backs, so with the way Gibson was rebounding, those put-backs are unlikely.

Georgetown has very little chance, imo. They turn the ball over too much, which will feed UNC's fastbreak and get them going. I know it's fashionable to say that UNC will have trouble with G'town's pace, but you need more than just style of play to beat these Heels. I doubt G'town's guards are good enough.

Hibbert won't be in the game long enough to frustrate Hansblahblah. Hans will repeatedly run into Hibbert at full speed, and Hibbert will be on the bench in foul trouble throughout. Guaranteed.

If Georgetown is going to win, Green will have to be unreal and Summers will have to be almost as much so.

Fatigue, fatigue, fatigue. Perfect example of it last night in the unc-usc game. usc was winded, unc was rested.

Even the announcers and newspapers this morning said the same thing.

Makes those "develop the bench" arguments from earlier in the year and last week have some ground don't they?

throatybeard
03-24-2007, 10:08 AM
I'm not disputing that UNC had more gas in the tank, but I wouldn't go with what the announcers say as a measure of how tired a team is. The announcers say all sorts of idiotic things.

Last night packer claimed that you could tell SoCal was more tired becuase two of their players had sweat-soaked jerseys. Halfway through the 2H That might be one of the ten dumbest things I've ever heard on a telecast. Some people sweat buckets and others very little, and it has nothing to do with fatigue.

... And to no one's surprise, this does not receive an (or any) outcry from every major media publication...

My favorite call of the night? Hansbrough does what all UNC fans swear every Duke player has ever done in the paint.... he FLOPS to draw a foul on Taj Gibson, which would have been Hansbrough's 3rd or a no call at best. Oh the sweet sweet irony of it.

Billy Packer is hilarious. He stated during the UNC game that he didn’t think Jeff Green traveled during the Georgetown winning shot. That’s a joke. I picked Georgetown to win the tourney and still felt terrible for Vandy to go down like that. If that was McRoberts, the press would never give up on that. I don’t know if it would have even been worth it for Duke to win a game like that in the tournament.

By the way, the “This is Why Duke Sucks” video on Youtube that DBR mentions actually is somewhat funny when you step back and look at all the hatred.
