Just when it looked like the Hawks were turning things around ....

Why would we use the mid-level exception on Childress? We will be fine without him. Have fun in Europe.

Why would we use the mid-level exception on Childress?Because he's an excellent player.

Have fun in Europe. The move makes perfect sense. Euro salaries are paid after tax, so the money difference is huge. Those contracts typically have annual opt-outs so he can "test the waters" regularly. If he plays out the full three years, he'll be 28 and an unrestricted free agent (the Hawks retain his rights for two years) -- that's a great position to be in. He'll be paid in Euros, which looks great for the foreseeable future. He'll live in a beautiful seaside city rather than the ATL, playing at a pretty high level with a less demanding schedule. What's not to like?

I think it's a major screw-up for the Hawks.

I was expecting a thread about McRoberts with this title and was disappointed with what I actually found :p

Though perhaps McRoberts should check this out. As pointed out... this is a pretty nice move for Childress. If I were him, I would do it.

Brutal assessment of the Hawks. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=hollinger_john&page=Hawks-080723. Evans must be proud!

RPS way to hit the financial impact of this move. It is actually quite brilliant on his part to play overseas.....
