Vibe magazine is doing a March Madness style survey for "best rapper alive:"

http://www.vibe.com/bestrapper/BestRapperBrackets.pdf

Just like with the real selection committee, this bracket is a travesty. Wycleff or DMX don't crack the top 65?!?

The seeding is also pretty bad. Lil Wayne's mama must be on the committee.

It may just be my personal rap tastes, but I think the B.I.G. bracket is substantially tougher than the other three.

Any thoughts?

I dub this an Epic Fail.

TI as a 2 seed and QTip a 14 seed? This bracket is dead to me.

These brackets are a disaster. I wonder what Rick Rubin thinks.

Pros:
Scarface as a four seed works.
Diddy in the play-in game is perfect.
Ghostface 4
I'm okay with the exclusion of DMX, I thought he was overrated, nothing more than one-hit-wonder material IMHO.

Cons:
Method Man an 8 seed?
Kanye West a freakin 2!!!?!?!
No Too $hort?
I would've like to have seen a mid-major like Rappin' 4Tay somewhere in the mix.

Also, the unmitigated gall of putting the two halves of Black Star against each other in a first round game. Just wrong.

It's like they're trying too hard to be controversial by pitting friends against one another:
Ghostface vs. Kwon
Meth vs. Redman
Common vs. Black Thought
etc.

Analyzing all the seeds, from 1-16...

1 - I can't fault any of these
2 - T.I. should be lower. Nas arguably should be higher. Kanye and Snoop are right where I think they should be.
3 - I love Lupe, but he should be lower. The Game and 50 could also arguably be lower. Luda's in his right spot.
4 - I can accept all of these
5 - I can accept all of these too. It surprises me that Pusha T is a 5 seed in this bracket, because he (and Malice) are one of my favorite rappers, and The Clipse rarely get the recognition that they are due.
6 - I would have Busta Rhymes higher. The rest are pretty set.
7 - Ice Cube should be higher on this list.
8 - Lauryn Hill and Method Man should be higher. Lil Boosie should be much lower.
9 - Redman should be higher, Webbie much lower.
10 - Talib and Beans should be higher, Talib especially.
11 - Ross and Twista should be higher. Lil Mama should not even be on this list, period.
12 - I can agree with these.
13 - All 4 of these should be higher than 13.
14 - Are you kidding me? Q-Tip at 14? Abstract shouldn't be anywhere below an 8.
15 - Foxy Brown should be higher. Shawty Lo shouldn't be on the list. Bow Wow could be higher as well.
16 - (including play-in). Soulja Boy is doing his thing, but if he is a 16 seed, then Jim Jones, Diddy, Dizzie Rascal and Trina ALL deserve to be much higher.

Obviously, these are my opinions, but for the most part, I agree with 90% of the rappers on here, just not in their current seeds. (I think LL Cool J should at least make the bracket)

NOTE: This is a bracket for the best rappers currently out, not just of all time, so before you start saying folks like Rakim, Run DMC, KRS-One and others should be on the bracket, that's the reason they're left off.

Is this the wrong thread to debate the world's best tuba player?:)

That all depends on the beats they lay down.

There's really only one possibility. Opus:

Did you ever get 'Billy and the Boingers Bootleg (http://www.amazon.com/Billy-Boingers-Bootleg-Bloom-County/dp/0316107298)'? It came with a 45 flexi disc with two tracks. One of them was "U Stink But I Love You" as recorded by Mucky Pup, an 80's hardcore band with an obnoxious twist. It's great. No really, it is.

EDIT: The Album version of the song is different than the flexi disk. Flexi disk actually has a tuba track. I've got the flexi somewhere in a box. Maybe I'll convert it to mp3 and post. :)

Oh, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!

I haven't heard "U Stink" since my brother and I wore out our wafer-thin sheet of plastic grooves.

You make me sick
way-o, way-o, way-o
You make sick!
(You really stink, girl!)

You make me sick
way-o, way-o, way-
You make me sick
<tuba>wah wah</tuba>
but I love you.
