It was March 13, 1967 at Madison Square Garden. Duke was the overwhelming favorite against the Salukis in the NIT.

A fellow named Walt (Clyde) Frazier had a great game and Duke with Verga, Wendelin, Kolodziej, Riedy and Lewis went down 72 - 63.

Frazier (FG: 6-15; FT: 5-6; Reb: 0-0 9; PF: 2; A: 6; TP: 17) later played a "little" ball for the NY Nicks and now is seen doing the hair coloring commercial "no play for Mr. Gray."

I really didn't like Walt Frazier that night. :(

That was the first year the ACC left its runner up compete in the NIT. Duke lost to NC State on Saturday, then had to go to New York to play in the NIT. It was Duke's fourth game in five days.

We beat Sillinois in the first round of the NCAAs in 1993.

What exactly was the deal with the ACC's ban on Nit play? I've known about it, but would like to know why it was put into place. Did it have something to do with the gambling and pointfixing scandals around NYC in the 1950s?

The Salukis would make us their fire hydrant. Or their [word for female dog].
