Ok - I'm a bit of shoe junkie. I got my first pair of Jordans when I was in the 6th grade (and I hold the dubious distinction of being the first person at Shepard Middle School to have the black/red Jordans). I even got my shoes a WHOLE size too big b/c I refused to get the "Sky" Jordans.

My point being is that I was never an Adidas fan UNTIL the Duke team wore those really slick Adidas.

Somewhat like this pic but in Duke colors and modified a bit...

Vaguely seen in these pics... It's been hard as a mutha to find these shoes!

At that point I began wearing Nike and Adidas based on whoever had the hottest designs.

Well the team switched to Nike in 1993. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9F0CE0DE173DF937A25757C0A9659582 60

I watched a WHOLE show on UNC's shoes and since Nike does ours as well - I'm wondering who knows anything about what shoes we'll be looking at this year.

The team wore the Kobe Zoom III in the tourney...

I'm getting this year shoes! Got a feeling...

That has got to be the ugliest sneaker I have ever seen, although in gak blue it would be worse ;)

ugly? At least they breathe. Last few years the basketball shoes I've noticed around here have the foot encased in shiny, colorful airtight plastic of some sort.

That is a pretty butt ugly shoe......disturbs me that the caption below the blue and black shoe says that those two colors together are the school colors. Please, someone, drop the black from the jerseys and kill that ugly black alternate road jersey. I've never liked it and never will. I did have a pair of adidas that I got when I was in high school (want to say I got them either in '90 or '91) and wore until the soles were as slick as onion skins. If I remember correctly the subname for them was "Skyjackers" or "Skywalkers." One of the two. I also wrote on the back of the heels "Air Hill" in honor of our two Hills at the time. :D

Spiderman, Spiderman,
Does whatever a spider can.
Spins a web, any size,
Catches thieves just like flies.
Look out! Here comes the Spiderman.

I grew up a Duke fan. I refused to buy Air Jordans b/c the dude went to UNC. In fact, for years, I refused to wear Nike "air" shoes b/c I thought they were still part of the Jordan line, and therefore tangentally associated with UNC.

I remember buying a pair of running shoes in college in Durham and paying $10 more for a pair that didn't have gak blue on them. Money well spent in my opinion.

ill have to disagree with you on this...i LOVE the black alternate jerseys. those jerseys helped to cement my love for duke basketball. NO ONE has jerseys like that. it helps set apart duke basketball as a "bad-pottymouth!pottymouth!pottymouth!" school....which we are.

I have to agree that I like the black jerseys - however nothing beats the white and blue.

Let's just thank God that we're not Nike's guinea pigs like the University of Oregon...

Sorry to rain on anyone's 4th, but my first reaction to the black unis was, "Hey, they put the Duke logo on some Sacramento Kings surplus gear!!" Nothing says "basketball excellence" like "Sacramento"... Just ask Tim Donaghy...

And since I'm being the uniform grouch, Oregon isn't the only Nike guinea pig. Do you remember the unis that OSU, Fla, and Syr busted out last year ? There is no doubt in my mind that if Nike wrote a big enough check, they could get someone to wear paisley or polka dots if they wanted to.

On the other hand, spandex is not necessarily evil.... I must admit I'm looking forward to watching the Australian women's hoop team in Beijing... rowwrrrrr.....

Apparantly, you don't remember N.C. State's post Valvano Uni-tard days... LOL! That might have been the low point of Valvano's departure.

Touche!! I couldn't resist the urge to google that up, but you've got to give me a little slack... it was a two-game (failed) experiment 20 yrs ago...

I'm not going to inflict a Corchiani jpg on anyone, but in retrospect the look doesn't seem as foreign as it did at the time, since most players now wear underarmor or other compression shorts under their game shorts. (never mind they were still wearing short shorts back then...)
