    Doc Watson (1923-2012)

Not unexpected, given recent hospitalization, Doc passed away today.

    WNCW

When I'm in the NC mts, I listen constantly to a near-unique radio station, WNCW, in the great metropolis of Spindale, at the wonderfully-named Isothermal Community College.

Hard to describe the playlist of a station that gives you Louis Armstrong, followed by the Avett Bros, followed by the Sparrow Quartet, followed by Bob Dylan, followed by Levon Helm, followed by Sarah Jarosz, followed by Billie Holiday ..... Not sure what "Americana" music means exactly, but something to do with roots music and a fusion of many different genres.

This morning, it's all Doc Watson.

When you're in the mts or surfing the web, check it out: http://www.wncw.org/

If you just click on Playlist, I think you might be intrigued.

It's a local station for us, luckily. Also, check WGWG 88.3 Bolling Springs.. About as good.

Heaven's Choir of Angels just picked up a heck of a guitar player and singer. Rest in peace.

We have lost a true giant. Doc, I hope you have re-united with Merle in that great jam session in the sky.
