    Opening Day! (well, maybe)

I'm pumped up ... the Yankee opener is due to kick off the season at 1 p.m. today (ESPN). I've got popcorn and I'm all ready to go -- CC on the mound, Gardner batting leadoff and Jeter in his new spot at No. 2 in the order (against righthanders).

The only problem is the weather. They wrre talking about snow in New York City last night. They didn't get that, but it was a cold rain all night -- temp in he high 30s.

I checked the Weather Channel hourly forecast and it's raining as I write this. But the hourly projection is for a break, starting at just before 1 p.m. and lasting to almost 3 p.m., when "light" rain is predicted. Temps in the low 40s.

I'd hate to be there for a cold, wet afternoon, but since I'll be watching from the comfort of my home ... play ball!

Go Tigers! Happy that we drew the opening game on ESPN.

It is similar weather down here in DC for the Nats-Braves opener. My plan is to watch the Tigers somewhere before my ESL class begins. Opening Day!

I hope to be able to watch the Padres-Cardinals opener in St. Louis at work (shh, don't tell). No offense Yankeedom but St. Louis is baseball heartland and should open every season.

Now if only our pitching weren't all mummies with theirs bandages and wraps. This season has me more than a bit concerned, especially with Pujols issues still in the air. For the record, I think he resigns. But I wouldnt be surprised to see a slow start to his season, he sometimes presses too much.

    162-0

Perfect first day ... Yankees top Tigers 6-3. Homers by Tex, Granderson ... a double by A-Roid, driven in by Swish and an RBI sac fly by the captain. Three perfect innings of relief by the bullpen -- Chamberlain (!), Soriano and Mo.

Delighted we got it in ... it was a raw day.

PS Adding to my join is the fact that my second team also opened with a win -- the Braves got a four-pitcher shutout in Washington. Two hits by Chipper, including a double, and for the second straight year Jason Heywood opened the season with a home run.

    Yanks-Braves in the series!

Yeah, well...it's good to have baseball underway, even with the loss to my Tigs.

After two games, the Pirates do NOT have a losing record! I declare the season a success!

I liked this read on how a team <fill in the blank> somehow gets its hooks into us...

After being notified by mlb of a drug ploicy issue, Manny Ramirez has retired. One hell of a hitter.
Demented and sad, but social, right?
