    He's ba-ack! Version II - Rickey Henderson

    You gotta be kidding me...

    http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6792418

Here's a classy quote from the article:

"They say I've done too much. What'd he accomplish? ... The players they put on the field nowadays, they couldn't make it in my day. They'd get sent back to Triple-A."

Maybe the O's will pick him up. Sounds like a move they'd make.

I'm happy to hear it. He just needs 3 more home runs to become only the second major leaguer to have at least 3000 hits, 300 home runs, and 300 stolen bases. He'll be the first to do it without a cloud hanging over his career record. One guess as to who the other one is.

Go Rickey. I'm rooting for you.

    Well THAT'S cool.

I didn't realize that. Why in the world did he quit before reaching that mark?

I really don't mind Henderson, and he was admittedly awesome.

After you posted that, I must admit I'm pulling for the guy too.

He did not quit. No one wanted him any more. Just a couple years ago he played for a while with one of those Independant League teams that are something like a A or maybe AA team in the hopes of getting a nibble from a Major League Team. No dice.

The difference between Henderson and Clemens is--

    1) great starting pitchers are hard to find... a lot harder to find than center fielders.

and 2) Clemens is still playing at an All-star level. Henderson is not.

This is perfectly accurate. When Rickey started playing, with fewer teams in MLB, that meant fewer roster spots and only the best of the best. With more teams now, and more roster spots, the talent pool is diluted. Thus, some players on the field nowadays, WOULD have been in AAA back then.

True, but I always felt he was honest about it. Plus, he did play for a lot of winners anyway.

And I love the base stealers.

And I can do an impression of his batting stance that is usually good for some laughs.
