I've dredged up some old Deschutes Brewing reviews:

    From 4/7/13:

    Hop Henge (Experimental) IPA-Deschutes Brewing

I split a $6.65 bomber of this last PM after dinner with our son. What a hop monster! Seven hop varieties listed and 2-3 malts, depending on who/where I read, yielding an outrageous IBU of 95 and an ABV of 10.6%, so this is a potent, pretty well balanced brew. Poured a straw yellow with a small, slightly off-white head which disappeared rather quickly. Nose is all fresh grapefruit juice and zest and the taste is Tropicana, too. The malty/caramel-y/boozy balance follows strongly. If you didn't already figure it out, it's not really an IPA but an IIPA. But, it garnered the World Beer Awards best pale ale and IIPA awards in 2011. Go figure. This might even overpower a hot/spicy Oriental/Indian dish. Outstanding beer, especially at <$7 for the 22 ounce bottle.

    From 1/19/13:

    Jubelale-Deschutes Brewing

Poured a dark ruby-brown color with a small to modest head and hints of licorice, dark and milk chocolates and a drop of espresso. A true winter warmer ale. A bit hoppier than you might expect for the style at 60 IBU but with a pretty standard ABV at 6.7%. Serve with fruitcake or any spiced cakes or by itself as you recline by a fire. Had one of these in Portland earlier this month and brought back another couple for traders.

    From 1/6/13:

    Inversion IPA-Deschutes Brewing

This is one of the hoppier IPAs I have ever tasted clocking in at an IBU of 80 with 6 hop varieties. Four malts provide a nice balance with an ABV of 6.8%. Lots of citrus, especially grapefruit in the nose and a light caramel taste in the middle with a moderately bitter finish. Pour was an straw-orange color with a moderate head. Tasted by itself but would match nicely with spicy foods. Overall, I like Two Hearted Ale better but this is a very fine IPA. Bought a six pack of this during our stay in Portland and shared four and brought a couple back for trading purposes.

From last PM as an early birthday celebration:

    Trophy Wife (draft)-Trophy Brewing Company

    Drink local!

This was just listed "IPA" on the beverage menu but I didn't think Trophy had any "plain" monikers so the bartender told me the real story/name as I left the restaurant last PM. It's actually a session IPA. Pint pour was a light, orange-amber with a smallish, foamy head. Light citrus aromas, mostly grapefruit with mildly floral bitterness/hoppiness, followed by Tropicana Light grapefruit-orange juice flavors, no pulp . I'll guess 40 IBUs and the ABV was 4.9% making it a nice pairing with some delicious shrimp and grits.

Brewery Bhavana (sp?) in downtown Raleigh (former space of Tir Na Nog) is quite good.

Had a foeder aged brett saison, a coffee saison and a couple of IPAs from their seasonal list. Oh, also had a spiced Tripel that was good.

    Lyft is your friend.

Was with company so no notes beyond well worth a visit.

No flights and with 10 or 16 oz pours, hard to get through such a big list even sharing.

    Great food also. Highly recommended.

    Nicely played.

Ate at Magnolia Grill, not at the brewery () so Trophy Husband was "not available." Or something like that.

Across the World-Sierra Nevada Beer Camp 2017

I can't attend due to on call responsibilities so I enrolled in the home study/paper course version. I think I'll get 12 credits if I submit 12 posts when I complete the required sipping, err, reading:

    Ok, Beer Camp was AMAZING!

    Ballpark 45 beers tasted.

Quite a celebration. Great music, great beer, great food trucks.

Cool app which honestly distracted from live engagement.

Hoppy Trout Brewing Best Day Ever Pineapple Milkshake IPA might be best in show.

Steel String Dill Pickle Juice Gose might be one of the most horrible beers I have EVER had.

Hardywood Gingerbread Stout, amazing. Their Pils, boring.

Fullsteam Humidity good, Southern Basil perfect.

    Cigar City Hunapu blecch, soy.

A lot of fun sour beers.

Clouds Brewing Mohito kolsch, most surprising. Good!

Burial Beers Hawkeye and saison were outstanding.

Koi Pond beers ( Rocky Mount) decent.

Ponysaurus Don't Be Mean to People (anti HB2 beer) was excellent.

Oak and Dagger coffee beer was good.

    The Birdsong beers werr excellent.

Brice's Beer ( new to Raleigh) were terrible. Terr-i-ble.

Highlands Big Briar Raspberry Tart was tasty.

Cigar City Hunahpu sucked. Soy bomb.

    Terrapin's Watermelon Gose, refreshing.

    Gibbs Brewing was awful.

Just some brief snippets of the approximately 45 beers tatsed at Sierra Nevada Beer Camp.

    Fun night, I feel old.

Was both rewarding and sad to see "fake" craft brewery lines short.

Ballast Point and Wicked Weed just two examples.

Sounds like you had a great time. Thanks for the summary.

I noticed the Big Briar at the grocery store they other day and was intrigued, but my fridge is over capacity and I'm moving in a month.

Ricks68, mountaindevil, and any other Asheville area beer lurkers in need of beer (or a loveseat) hit me up. Looks like I might be giving away some beer (and furniture) soon.

We tried Raspberry Sundae along with the Thai Iced Tea tonight.

    Both were good, not great.
