    Austin restaurant suggestions?

Hi everyone -- I'm planning a bachelor party in Austin and looking for a restaurant recommendation for 8 guys. We don't want anything too gourmet, and will be hitting up bars afterwards, so probably don't want anything too heavy. Any ideas are appreciated!

Mexican - Gueros (Austin Institution, trendy, not fancy), Matt's El Rancho (further from downtown, but can accomodate large groups).

Hamburgers - Casino El Camino on 6th. Also, you can get your drink on a little early there.

BBQ - not a lot of great BBQ in the city. Iron Works is downtown and pretty good.

If you just want to start downtown and not have to cab or drive it at all, Iron Cactus on Sixth is pretty good as well.

Lots of places to go -- For a group of 8, I'd probably do Gueros if I had a van/could hop in cabs, followed by Iron Cactus and th Casino El Camino.

Of course, there is always Hooters. . . . .

    Salt Lick

Only place to go is the Salt Lick. Out in the middle of nowhere -- and I mean the middle of nowhere -- like an oasis of great BBQ and a party atmosphere inside and out. Can't go wrong.

Mexican - Chuy's - one down town on Barton Springs Road
BBQ - Rudy's - various locations around the city
    Freebirds - awsome burritos
Burgers and Stuff - Shady Grove on Barton Springs Road
    Deli - Katz's on 6th street

My favorite is Chuy's. Ask for the cilantro ranch dip with your chips. Margarita's aren't bad either.

If you into sushi, there's Uchi (expensive) on S. Lamar, and for affordable sushi, there's Kyoto on Congress, right downtown.
For Tex-Mex, along with the others mentioned, Polvos on S. First is a pretty hoppin spot, but can be crowded. Z Tejas is a nice, fancy Mexican place. Also Maudie's on S. Lamar. And for super cheap, you can get some tacos, avocado and salad and rice and beans for like $6 at Arandas.
For BBQ downtown, Ironworks is probably your best bet. Salt Lick is far, but pretty good. Rudy's is always good.
Your normal seafood and steak houses: Ruth's Chris, Sullivans, Eddie V's, McCormick and Schmicks.

Just as a heads up in case you didn't catch this above -- Salt Lick is about 45 minutes to an hour outside of town.

It's also BYOB, so make sure you grab a cooler and fill it up with a case of Lone Star.

But if you have the time and the drivers to get down there, as others have said, it's a lot of fun and typically has great live music.

Appreciate that -- we've got a drunk bus carting us around for the evening, so shouldn't be a problem. They told us BYOB when I called for the reservation (didn't know that before) so that makes it even better. Should be cheap!

Also, it used to be cash only. Might want to check on that. I haven't been in years so they might take credit cards now. And since it is in the middle of no where, running to an ATM when the check comes is difficult.

Nope, it's at the original. They take reservations for large groups... you just have to call the headquarters, not the restaurant itself.

And yep, it's cash only. Guess we'll be making an ATM run before dinner.
