    Gotta admit

Kansas, Memphis, Davidson AND texas all looked pretty dominating last night... There is hope yet. (altho i am NOT counting L'ville out yet)

There is no way Davidson could beat UNC the way the Heels are playing right now. Davidson's magic is going to run out against Kansas anyway. All my hopes are really with Kansas now, though Louisville has an outside shot.

Davidson is not beating Kansas. The dream is over.

    Small programs, big results

No matter what, Davidson has really a lot to be proud of. They have been outstanding, although I must admit that it was difficult to watch Davidson and Wisconsin last night, two teams that we beat earlier.

It seems that the Ivy League wants to get into the act, according to this Newsweek article that features our own Tommy Amaker:

I am glad to see this positive press for Amaker, especially after the overly critical article in the NYT.

Question-- which would you give a better chance...

    Davidson 2008 over Kansas 2008

    or

George Mason 2006 over Connecticut 2006

    ????

In total agreement here. I think anybody left now, has the ability to beat any of the others. Sure the odds don't favor Davidson in contest with Kansas but it's certainly not impossible. Wisco has the deserved reputation for great defense and Davidson beat it. Winners will find a way.

I'm with you. Even for those of us that thought Davidson would win last night...anybody have them as a 20 point winner?

George Mason in 2006, hands down. While that was a historic upset in that a mid-major got to the Final Four over a team that many had viewed in the pre-season as a very strong national championship contender, the 2006 UConn team was playing with fire in much the same way that UCLA this year has. Kansas is doing nothing of the sort, at least thus far.

Let's look at UConn's 2006 NCAA Tournament games:

1st Round: beat #16 Albany 72-59, in a game which Albany LED with just over 6 minutes to go!
    2nd Round: beat #8 Kentucky, 87-83
Sweet 16: beat #5 Washington, 98-92 in OT

    Now Kansas in 2008:

    1st Round: beat #16 Portland State, 85-61
    2nd Round: beat #8 UNLV, 75-56
    Sweet 16: beat #12 Villanova, 72-57

Giving these stats doesn't do justice to how well Kansas is playing and how seriously vulnerable 2006 UConn looked (again, like this year's UCLA). I'd add to this that as well as Davidson is playing, they are relying heavily on guard play, whereas if I recall correctly, 2006 George Mason had a pretty talented frontcourt.

    Except in 2001.

As much as I would rather not chance UNC making the F4, I do feel that it would be poetic if Kansas beat them on the way to its first title since before Ol' Roy's days.
