    Redshirt and Scholarship question

Random question, but what happens if a coach signs his incoming recruiting class (current high school seniors) and fills his maximum number of scholarships...BUT THEN loses a current player to a season-ending injury early in the season and that player is granted a medical redshirt. Does the coach get an extra scholarship in that case?

I know this is a very trivial, rare, weird question, but just wondering.
    Also, has this ever happened?

I'm pretty sure that a redshirted player - medical or not - counts against the scholarship limit. The benefit is that a year of eligibility is not used, but the limit still stands.
