    How "Dixie" Are You?

Please take the following test and report your score back to Demographics Management (i.e., EarlJam).

    I, EarlJam, am 84% Dixie.

This came as somewhat of a surprise to me.

    Your redneck friend,

P.S. Not sure if this link has been posted here before, but found the test entertaining, interesting, sensual.

49%, barely Yankee. That's not altogether surprising as I've lived in Boston for the past 6 years and never acquired many of the trappings of a southern upbringing (accent, language, bearded throat) due to abject shelteredness.

51% (Dixie). Barely into the Dixie category.

I guess that's what I get for spending about half my life in the South.

(Though I have to say, I'm surprised at the amount of redneck-yness there is here in the eastern/southern portions of Washington.)

76% but I would have been 100% if 13 years in the Chicago burbs hadn't screwed up my accent!

You DO know that was on purpose, right? Hence the "is" as well.

Still, I must confess, I stink at grahamer.

I get it.... Sorry about that. I stink at grammar too and grammar is one of the words I always spell wrong, which is why I pointed it out. Sorry about that Earl, sometimes it is hard to detect sarcasm. I merely meant it as a joke anyway and not a slam on you. Accept my apologies and I will gracefully retire from this thread.

No apology necessary! I knew you were being "light" about it. I'm in a bad mood this morning. With no umbrella, I walked into work in the pouring rain...cold, hungry, then got slapped on the wrist for my "God is in my Toes" thread (okay, perhaps a bit over the top, comes with the EarlJam territory).

And it's still pouring rain outside. AND I'm flat OUT of narcotics and can't drink on the NEW job.

I'm going home and going to bed.

I went back and forth on a few answers, as my wife, who is far more southern than I, has been working on me (ironically root vs. route is one where I appear to be MORE southern than she). I cleared my answers each time so they wouldn't affect the outcome as some have pointed out. Depending on my answers, I am anywhere between 79% and 87%, so any way I go, I'm pretty dixie. Maybe I should change my monniker to dixiedevil, though I think somebody already has that one.

I was born in Illinois, missing being born in Hawaii by less than a month, but only lived there for two years, so it probably didn't influence me TOO much. My parents are from California, so I'm sure that affected me some (not to mention that I went to high school in California), and I noticed this in a few answers. Other than that though, I have spent most of my life in some variation of the south (Texas, North Carolina, and Virginia mostly), so I guess it makes sense. Of my 32 years of life, 6 were spent NOT in the south, plus add a little for my parents, and you'd get anywhere from 15%-20% of me NOT being dixie, so I guess that makes sense.

The whole PacNW is pretty rednecky outside of King, Snohomish and Multnomah counties. Actually lots of Snohomish is pretty rednecky too.

    I am barely Dixie (57%).

I ran a little experiment. With all my previous answers in tact I changed one answer and hit compute my score, then for the heck of it I it the button again. Each time my score went up.

So, I decided to take the test again, using the same answers I had initially used. This time my score was 73% Dixie.

Perhaps the management needs to tweak this a little.

Yeah, I noticed that little bug in their web app. Each click of compute ratchets up your score. Looks like someone isn't properly clearing a var before re-running their calculations!

    Dang.

I HATE it when redneck detecting devices are proven inefficient.

Well, I was 87% red neck, but now I'm not sure whether I've earned it or not.

    not a good quiz

I mean, come on, at least you should include questions like,
    * how many cars are in your front yard
    * how many of those are within 10 ft from living space?
    * assuming you answered more than 0, how many of them are on cinder blocks
    * how many beer cans are in a pile next to said car?
    * bonus points if it's a z/28 or el camino
    * more bonus points if it's got primer or general lee paint scheme

This guy's winning so far... not to mention, he's from the future.

The question about what do you a call a drink isn't fair. In the south it's not called coke, unless it's mixed w/ Jack!

And drive through liquor store...what about driving to your next door neighbor's garage to get the moonshine?

What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?

If you answered "the devil is beating his wife" you're probably from Dixie

It's is from an interesting dialect site.
