When I think of "bad," I tend to think of somebody who didn't try or who blew up emotionally or who made a series of big mistakes.

Markie scored 15 points in the first half, hauled down a bunch of rebound against bigger guys, and hung in there like a warrior. Would he have liked to have made more free throws and hit more of those shots in the last 10"? Hmmm, let's guess. Perhaps you don't think he worked out hard enough during the off season, but perhaps you remember that he worked out with a frikkin' Navy Seal last summer, is in incredible shape, and specifically made a point of practicing his free throws and ball handling.

In other words, I don't let someone off easily who tosses of a line like, "he was bad." He wasn't perfect, but he gave it a good shot. If all you can say is that "he's the only Dukie to vote for," just don't vote.

Hmm.. Now I read that Ben is a high school student, so perhaps I'll rephrase: when tossing out criticisms of good guys who sweat every day with "Duke"s on their chests, it is probably wise to be very specific about your concerns. Kind of like with kids. Markie isn't "bad," but he had trouble with his ft's and his finishing and made a couple of regrettable fouls. And perhaps add in a bit about how our expectations have become remarkably high, given that this team wasn't expected to even compete for the ACC championship but has done so in the context of Nelson being our best player.

Since there aren't any Lady Blue Devils in the running, I'd appreciate it if DBRers who would otherwise not vote on the women's side would take a moment to vote for Sarah-Jo Lawrence (George Washington University)?

They really need to go down to tenths of a percent in their results. I'm not sure our votes are being tallied at all.
