I was just reading the "Next Up" when I saw this unbelieveable quote about VCU's big man, "Calvin Roland is 6-10, 245 (but only gets 105 mpg)".
Now I am not one to nitpick, but how did the VCU engineering department build this robot? Secondly, how does he get such great fuel economy? ( I don't know what J,B drive, but only 105 mpg sounds pretty good to me) This has to be a masterpiece of modern design and engineering. I personally cannot wait to see him in the game.
P.S.-Thanks DBR for all you do, the new boards are great!
I drive 45 minutes to work everyday and the gas prices are killing me. I gotta get me a "Calvin Roland."
$3.01 is the best I can get in Pleasanton, but if seems like a lot of other places in East Bay are still under $3.00...
Assuming full court = 90 ft (out of 94 ft), avg possession = 20 seconds, giving us about 4.5 ft/s of movement. At 10.5 mpg, he'd get 3+ hours on a single gallon of gas.
Of course, this is assuming 10.5 mpg is the EPA rated game-time efficiency, not walking efficiency. I hear once EPA switches over to a more realistic gas efficiency, hybrid players will see their mpg go down a bit.
I paid $2.39 here in NC yesterday, so it could be worse.
But I hear all the old folks say " I remember when I was 16 gas was a nickel a gallon." Well, I don't ever remember it being a nickel, but I remember it being $0.65 in my lifetime and I'm only 26.
And I'm still complaining. You didn't make me feel any better Clips! We feel for you though.... MAN ALIVE!
Reference CA gas prices, the following from an internet source (in then-current dollars):
1970 $0.34
1980 1.23
1990 1.09
2000 1.66
So, if VCU takes their Android to San Jose (perish the thought!) they can only imagine how cheap he would have been to run in 1970.
but it has been steadily rising.
got unlimited mileage, he just fluttered his wings so fast no one could notice.
I have a photo of 68-cent gas in South Carolina from 1998 I think. I'll post it when I get home.
But I can remember when I could pull into a gas station and fill up my motorcyle (2.5 gallon tank) AND get a pack of cigarettes for a dollar.
But of course that was way back in 1920, or so it seems.
I remeber paying $0.16 for regular between Newton & Charlotte, NC on Rt 16 - back in the 60's. Used to fill my MC once a week with HiTest for $.30 when attending Duke. Guess I am real old...

You can type in a zip code to go to a specific town if you know the zip code. For instance, if you type in 27577 for Smithfield, NC, you might see a familiar phrase as a poster name
Ozzie, your paradigm of optimism!

These are formally compiled directly from stations, rather than from folks driving by.
As promised. Yeah, I'm a dork.
Apparently VCU Engineering was thinking about this as early as 1983...!!
Check this out!!!
