Hard to think of a band with two more innovative and unique lead guitarists than the ABB with Dickey and Dwayne. A full life with highs and lows. Rest well, Brother.
Founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, guitarist Dickie Betts has passed at 80.

I had to go to YouTube and listen to Melissa upon reading the news. Excellent lead acoustic guitar by Mr. Betts.

Blue Sky, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Jessica . . . what a talent he was both songwriting and playing the guitar. Big loss.
I just met a neighbor who goes by Eliza, but whose email address says Elizabeth Reed. I guess Dickey caused to go by Eliza.
Loved the Allman Brothers.
There is no more sure way to measure my aging than that all the original members of the Allman Brothers Band, whom I saw at Duke two or three times while I was there, have passed away except for the drummer Jaimoe.
I am happy that they lived and played as long as they did. As long as the Allmans were touring (even without Dickie but with the wonderful Warren Haynes), then there was still some youth left in me.
I saw the Allman Brothers in the early 1970's at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago. One of the best shows I have ever seen.
Bill Graham chose them to play the final show at the Fillmore East which, of course, became a great double album.
Loved those guys.
I read the Duane Allman biography Skydog a few years ago and highly recommend it, if you can find it.
“Ramblin’ Man” was the first Betts/ABB song that awakened my senses and notice the greatness of that band. Masterpiece imho. RIP.
sure glad Dickie didn't hand off Ramblin Man to Johnny Cash as he had planned to do.
Have had Rambling Man and Jessica on repeat for a few days. Dickie was a great talent. Chuck Leavell, too.
