The potato talk all started with Grape Nuts talk. Where did that go? Texas potatoes, also reasonably known as hash brown casserole, ordinarily had a crust of crushed corn flakes. My suggestion was for Grape Nuts as an alternative to corn flakes. Trust me it's an improvement over corn flakes. Also at play is my concern for disappearing shelf space for Post Grape Nuts in grocery stores. I want them to be readily available in all super markets. Furthermore, every super market puts them on the top shelf which makes it impossible for Mrs Jarhead to buy them for me. She's too short to reach them. She was apprehended the other day by the Walmart police for climbing up the shelves when other customers refused to help her get some Grape Nuts. (I just made that up.) Oh, the misery of it all. Will Grape Nut fans ever get a fair shake?

Mrs. Jarhead would like to shop where I shop since I always offer to get things down from high shelves for those that appear to be unable to reach what they are looking for. When I was young, I wasn't too fond of my height but I got over that by the beginning of high school.

You can do an Advanced Search to see who has greater than a certain number of posts, so clearly it's storing that information, but it doesn't say how many each person has when you actually view it without having to go to each person's profile individually. I liked to be able to see who of CDu, devildeac, Duvall, JasonEvans, Kedsy, and OldPhiKap was winning the post count battle!
Another random (this time easier and non-controversial) request. Can the powers to be fix the lack of a space when you hover over somebody's pitchfork count? For example, currently when I hover over the pitchforks under my username it says "Bluedogis All-ACC". It should say "Bluedog is All-ACC." Yes, I'm particular, but it's been bothering me for a while. Oddly, when you do it in Member List, it does have the space. Just not when you're doing it within a post in a thread. Thanks!

It will annoy me now. Before it didn't annoy me because I never noticed it. Thanks, I think.

So I just have to share/vent.

Today my cat jumped, as she normally does, from the couch (about 2 feet off the floor) down to the floor, and immediately starts limping, favoring her right front leg. Naturally, I flip out. She's 14, and has never done anything like this before.

So I call the vet. Can't bring her in for an hour (vet is out to lunch). Ok sit and watch her hobble around for an hour. Won't let me touch her, but during the moment I'm able to, she meows and hisses when I touch her front right paw/arm. Now I'm crying because there's nothing I can do.

A little time passes, and she limps over and starts eating. Ok, that's a good sign. Then she comes back and lays on the floor all sprawled out with her content face showing. That's got to be better, right?

Well the time comes and she's still limping, so I have to take her to the vet. Oh joy. Wrangle her into her case, and off we go. She (for her bratty self) behaves pretty well at the vet, but the vet says there's something wrong with her elbow and she'd like to do an x-ray. Oh joy, how much is this going to cost me? $500, give or take, because doofus definitely won't behave after I leave, so they need to sedate her a bit (been there, done that, know the routine, so I'm not totally surprised by that part).

Leave her to get the x-ray, and come back to a $500 bill and some pain meds (for her, not me, sadly). No obvious fracture, but the vet thinks something's up so she's sending the x-ray to a specialist (kitty orthopedist? kitty radiologist?) to have it reviewed and I should know in a few days at the latest. If it's a fracture, they either set it or she'll have surgery (let's not even go there right now). If it's a soft tissue injury, then it's just got to heal. Either way, I HAVE TO KEEP HER TO EXTREMELY LIMITED MOBILITY FOR TWO WEEKS. Hello? She's a cat. But no running, no jumping on & off furniture. So my options are 1) lock her in the bathroom with litter, food, & water for two weeks; or 2) get a big dog crate that I can fit a small litter box, her food, & water in.

She's currently limping around (to the extent there's room) in the bathroom, with a little bed, a blanket, and some of her stuffed animals (in addition to the litter, food, & water). She currently hates me (though she did love the tuna I gave her when she got home). Her hatred for me is getting worse as time goes on because she doesn't understand why mommy had to lock her in what was formerly known as time-out. I'm a wreck. My poor baby.

One of my cats started favoring one of her front paws on Monday. Not sure how she hurt it. I'm going to give it a few days. As she is running around and chasing other cats like normal. Except when it is time to eat when she really starts limping. I would go the bathroom route, it gives you more room to space out her food, water, litter.

I'm at my parents' house now, and brought Dippy* with me. She seems a little better. But rather than lock her in the bathroom, she's got the bathroom & we bought 2 baby gates to give her a little more room to roam outside the bathroom, too. Those will work really well in my apartment next week, but it remains to be seen how it goes here because she's been hiding behind the toilet for a while.

She's mostly out of jail, thanks for asking. We got back to CA on Monday, and she stayed in jail until Friday. The doctor said 2 weeks, but I busted her out a week early. She seems to be doing ok and very much about being near me.

The reason she's still partially in jail is because I'm keeping my bedroom off limits, for a few reasons. First, my bed is higher than the couch cushions for her to jump up and down, so no dice with that. Also, she can hide under my bed or in my closet, and I don't want to have to deal with that at the moment.

But overall, she is doing well.

On a (cat) related note, are you aware that some cats have this thing (not sure what to call it) where their system attacks their teeth as if they were foreign bodies and the teeth mostly get absorbed back into their jaws, or they just end up falling out? Well, that's the other fun we're dealing with right now. Vets have no idea why this happens, but apparently it's fairly common. Anyone want to open a kitty denture business?

I have heard of this but don't have any experience with it personally.
