Jala returning to form would be a very interesting wrinkle to this season. Cassidy Curd was the clear number 1 in the second half of last season and Jala was sometimes not even the number 2. Cass didn't look great in Mexico but if she comes back to form AND Jala is elite?! That would be something.

It would be huge. Jala didn't play at all in the Regional iirc and Young clearly didn't trust her to end the season. For her to return to form - if Cass can as well - would make us far far harder to beat, especially since she has such a different style of pitching from Cass to change it up on opponents.

During Peyton St. George's last season, I thought that Jala was pitching better than PSG at the end of the season. Last season was a bit of a head scratcher for Jala. Excited to see Cassidy and Jala pitching well at the same time.

No. 10 Duke Softball Welcomes North Dakota State for Home Opener
Coming off a strong 3-1 opening weekend in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, No. 10 Duke is set to welcome North Dakota State to Duke Softball Stadium on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
North Dakota State opened the season at the UNC Wilmington Home Weekend event, claiming a 3-2 record over the five-game weekend. The Bison fell to Furman, 4-1, and Queens, 3-0, in the first two games. However, the Bison bounced back to win their final three games, starting with a 5-2 win over Northern Kentucky on Saturday, led by a home run from Ella Claus and a complete game from Kaitlyn Dunford in the circle. On Sunday, Reanna Rudd, Jasmyn Yessian and Addie Bowers powered North Dakota State to a 3-2 win over DePaul and a 5-1 win over host UNC Wilmington to close out the weekend.

18-0 final. NDSU is not good but very nice to take care of business. And Cass got a clean inning in to finish it which has to be good for her confidence

18-0 run-rule game. Duke with 16 hits, 4 HR, 4 SB and 5 BB in only 4 innings.
Drogemuller, Walker and Curd combined for the shutout on only 2 hits.

Duke heads to FIU this weekend for an invitational featuring FIU, Rutgers, and Army, none of whom are particularly good. The schedule shows one game vs each team but also a TBD game Saturday and Sunday for some reason - I'm guessing we'll have a double header both of those days depending on whether games are shortened or not? It's confusing.

Anyhow, it'll honestly be disappointing for a team of this caliber to spend more than 5 innings on any of these games. Let's see if they can pull it off and if any of the newcomers will shine in what should be more opportunities.

Duke trails Rutgers 1-0 in bottom second. Rutgers is the only team of any actual quality in this tournament (FIU is 4-4 all at home and army is 0-7) but still this would be a very disappointing team to lose to.
