    Video Games to movies

    From this article:
    http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment...at_should.html

    So question:
In your mind what are some Video Games That Should Be Movies?

I am not updated on the more recent video games, but I suspect Halo would be a great one, as would Warcraft.

How 'bout the classic games? What would make great movies from them?
    Defender?
    Galaga? lol
    Berzerk?

Thinking of it after watching the UC Berkeley Marching Band link on another thread, I think there is but one answer here:

MSFT has been trying to make a Halo movie for a while, but their deal terms aren't acceptable to the studios (among other issues). They just don't understand movie economics.

There has also been talk about a Warcraft movie, although I don't know what the current status on that is. I would guess that Universal would have the first shot at producing it given their relationship with Vivendi (which owns Blizzard).

I know that Hitman is coming out soon...

Zelda would be awesome. What about Toejam and Earl?

Knights of the Old Republic. A million times better than the latest Star Wars movies.

    Half-life. Hands down.

  11. They already made a move of Contra. Over and over. Throughout the 1980's:

In fact there was a neat article a while back about all of the NES-era game characters (esp. Konami) that were based on familiar movies (but not licensed vg versions of movies)

As for new movies, unless you can assure me that Uwe Boll will be kept far, far away, I'm afraid of any and all vg movies.

The Last Of Us looks awfully promising.

I could never get into the game, but I’m all in for the series.

Metal Gear and Dead Space (I know there were animated movies from Dead Space, but nothing live action)

I believe there have been efforts to get a Metal Gear movie going for a while now, but I don’t think it ever got past a script.

Dead Space, IMO, would be better as a series, given the extensive nature of the world building. As an aside, there was a good prequel novel.

Another I’d like to see, but I’m not sure how well the effects would work: Bioshock.

Wow, how/why did you find this thread from 2007?!

But yes, I have major nostalgia for Toejam and Earl. Had many many hours of that on my Sega. Some great 80s references and tunes.

Someone needs to do The Oregon Trail. And of course some poor feller will die of dysentery along the way.

I’m convinced that game was made with Gerard Butler and Ellen Page in mind as Joel and Ellie. In fact I think Page tried to sue them for using their likeness.

(Not sure if I should be using Elliot instead of Ellen when referring to past events)

Elliot Page was featured in a different video game - Beyond Two Souls.
