Duke men's golf!!

Is it common to have to potentially play 7 rounds of golf in such a short timespan in any other tournament during the year? Or is that unique to the NCAA tournament? Seems like a LOT of golf to me. Puts an emphasis more on endurance and muscle recovery than perhaps other events (if it's truly that rare). Interesting also that they'd choose a different format just for the NCAA tournament, but I get that they did it to increase drama/make it more exciting for viewers with matchplay.

I'm pretty sure it's unique to the tournament, and I agree with you that fatigue could really play a role.

Looks like it's going to come down to Shuman. Katz down 3 thru 15 and Pendaries up 4 thru 14, which would even the score at two apiece. Shuman is up 1 thru 13 now.

Wow, did not realize that. How do the pairings get decided? Looks like Duke put its #5 player against Texas' #1, thinking they were basically going to concede that match and compete on the others (which seems like a good strategy honestly). Ghim finished stroke play in third place at -6 (one off the leader) while Shuman was T65 at +14, so this would clearly be a major upset. The rest of Duke's contingent was T15, T32, T32, 36 after stroke play.

Well, Ghim had an absolutely brilliant shot after the penalty to get a gimme bogey. Shuman ended up with a pretty tricky putt for his bogey, and he made it!
