So...ranked 21 in one poll. A nice 2 spot jump.

And then there's this other one that has us now at 14.
Week in a sentence: Led by the likes of top draft prospects Griffin Conine and Jimmy Herron, Duke has gotten off to an excellent start in ACC play, winning series against traditional conference powers Virginia and Miami.

Where are they playing that they didn't get rain/snow? I figured today would be a bust. Rather play and win, though!

They actually moved the game to Coombs on campus because the DBAP was too wet. 9-5 final.

Evidenced by the first pitch he threw plunking the batter in the back.

I don’t follow college baseball that much. I have noticed that our third baseman is also one of our closers (Labosky). How often do you see a position player also pitch?

Bob, give the guy a break. It was his SECOND pitch. His first was swung at and missed... one of the VERY few he had of those I thought it was interesting that Coach let him stay in and work through it. Good experience for a freshman; and it didn't waste a relief arm.

Thanks for the correction. I must of turned my head away from the computer on his first pitch.

Great! I could use some baseball as I recover from last night's exhausting hoops game.
Nothing incites bodily violence quicker than a Duke fan turning in your direction and saying 'scoreboard.'

I asked a friend who pitched for UCLA which poll carries the most weight. He said the only poll players care about is Baseball America. As a result, I’m going with 14!

In fact you see it all the time in college ball, and I'd guess (I have no data) that private schools like Duke do it more than state schools. The NCAA limit for baseball scholarships is surprisingly low, only 11.7 total spread among no more than 27 guys. So recruiting versatile guys is absolutely critical..since Duke tuition is so high, even guys on half scholarships have a big bill to pay...at state schools, not so bad...so I suspect Duke needs to recruit versatility even more than most schools since state schools probably can fill out their rosters more easily (partial scholarships are far less costly).
