Wednesday marks the start of the G League showcase. This annual event is a big deal since it is all played in one location (Mississauga), which allows more people to scout the games in person. For a lot of NBA front offices, these are the only games that their decision makers will watch live. While not as big as some recent seasons with the Puerto Rican league in limbo and the Philippines not needing foreigners for quite a few more months, this is also an event that draws international scouts looking for midseason additions.

The nature of the event also makes it easier to televise so more games can be seen on outlets other than Facebook. Quinn will be on ESPNU at 12:00pm ET. The league just signed a deal with Eleven Sports, which is a channel that is carried by a number of providers in their sports packages. The company that runs it has international reach so the G League will be on TV in several other countries. The channel covers a mixture of domestic and international sports as I keep hoping to find one of Ryan Kelly's games from Spain chosen for broadcast (it is a good place to scout Luka Doncic). Marshall and possibly Andre can be seen there at 4:00pm ET. Amile will play at 8:30pm ET and his game will be broadcast on Twitch, which is also a new deal for the league.

I don't know whether it is better to sign a two-way contract or a 10 day contract at this point in the season, but somebody needs to give Amile a shot here. There's not much more you can ask him to do than what he has done this season.

I completely agree. He has been a model of consistency and while his body filled out by his senior year at Duke, he is looking even more stout in the videos you have been posting. Thanks as always for the great work.

Quinn may or may not have picked up a couple days of the higher salary, but rejoined Santa Cruz in time for their 117-112 loss to Reno. He had 26 points and 9 assists in 37 minutes while Matt had 4 points in 29 minutes. Michael Gbinije was one of a number of returnees from injury and had 6 points in 15 minutes.

There is a simple answer for this...

HE DOES NOT BELONG IN THE G-LEAGUE!! Dude is an NBA talent. I actually wish he was not on a 2-way deal with the Warriors because some other team would have picked him up for sure at this point if he was not tied to the best roster in the league.
Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?

Quinn has to be the leader for g league mvp... if he even can with his two way? Does anyone know?
Amile has to be up there for some reward... leading by 2.3 rebounds a game isn’t easy

I know it’s been explained before but what is the advantage of a two way contract for the players?

It turns out Marshall was in transit to the big club so he did not play for Wisconsin and got a few minutes for Milwaukee instead.

From an SB Nation article last summer:

    • The player’s pay comes on a tiered salary system, which can last one or two seasons. While in the G-League, the player will make $75,000. It’s a significant increase from the current pay structure for G-Leaguers, who cannot make more than $26,000 with a one-way G-League deal.
    • When in the NBA, a player with a two-way contract will accrue a day of service and make money consistent with an NBA rookie minimum, which is about $816,000 next season. If a player spends 45 days in the NBA, he could make around $204,000.
    • In total, a two-way player who spends the maximum amount of time in the NBA would make $279,000.
$75K to $279K is a lot better than $26K, the current G League max.

Is there an accounting of Quinn's 45 days? I'm curious how much more we might see him on the big stage this season.

There's no official count for all two-way players. The Warriors have been pretty good about including a tally every time he moves between teams and the last one had him at 18 days so he is basically not going to hit the max where they would need to make a decision on him. All days after the G League regular season are supposedly basically free for the NBA team so in a couple of months he can be with the big club through their regular season without them paying the bigger salary or counting any days. Apparently players that sign two-way contracts after the start of the season have a prorated maximum number of days based on when they signed so Amile and Marshall have fewer than 45 days before they hit their max.
