John Feinstein's latest column discusses Bobby Knight and his lonely retirement. Krzyzewski has a couple of prominent mentions:

Andre Dawkins: “People ask me if I can still shoot, and I ask them if they can still breathe. That’s kind of the same thing.”
So he is an a-hole who cares
Money quote:
After Knight retired from Texas Tech in midseason in 2008, he was hired with much fanfare by ESPN. The network wanted him to be a star. Knight wanted to be a star, too, but didn’t want to do the things TV analysts are asked to do: show up for production meetings; go to shoot-arounds; talk to coaches about their teams. It was beneath him. Bob Knight asking a coach for a few minutes of his time?
No way.
And so ESPN slowly moved him down the announcing ladder before finally giving up and firing him two years ago.

'When I got on the bus for my first road game at Duke, I saw that every player was carrying textbooks or laptops. I coached in the SEC for 25 years, and I had never seen that before, not even once.' - David Cutcliffe to Duke alumni in Washington, DC, June 2013
Based on the comments from that article, some people just don't understand why John Feinstein is so closely tied to Bobby Knight, and why Feinstein can't just ignore the guy. A Season on the Brink is a landmark work of sports nonfiction, certainly within the subgenre of college basketball.
I would be disappointed if Knight softened as a public figure, or returned to Bloomington earlier than desired (if desired). He has enemies there and he wants them to die. I don't fully identify with that feeling toward an employer or administration, but then I drive for about five minutes on any highway, and I completely understand. His consistency is refreshing.
Not a fan of either Knight or Feinstein, but assumed Knight left ESPN because of early onset dementia. Has always been a loose cannon, but significantly more erratic in recent years. Would never wish dementia on anyone, so somewhat relieved he's just an ODB.
There's probably video out there for someone with better search skills than I, but I remember he did segments "from the basement" where he broke down film and discussed it. One was about traveling and how it's rampant in the game and never called, and the first subject was...wait for it...Hansbrough! Showed and example of where the took many steps, shuffling his feet, and confirmed what we here had been saying. Hanstravel! For that I'll always have a soft spot for ol' Bobby.
Edit - here's the video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRZSru9uJfc Shows in detail that he took 5 steps. He got away with that his entire career. Well that along with the academic fraud.
The only thing Knight was good for was his golf tip tv series. If you haven't seen it, look it up on google. They are hilarious.
Otherwise he was a self absorbed jack***. Hated being overshadowed by the GOAT. The only thing that helped him was Coach K's class.

It's pretty amazing.
And I agree - Bob Knight is a jack***. I still have no idea why people like him on this board. He's an embarrassment of epic proportions. His X's and O's is great, but everything else is rotten. Well, he does have an amazing coaching tree.
Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfils the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things. - Winston Churchill

Knight recommended K to Tom Butters back in the day. For that, I will always be grateful.
Knight was worth listening to when he called a game. He knows basketball and obviously was an incredibly successful coach.
Knight was entertaining in his press conferences, from afar.
Having said all of that, Knight's personal failings are hard to ignore and they unfortunately overshadow many of the things for which he would otherwise be lauded. I would be appalled if he represented my university, on whole.
There was a time I often pulled for Indiana, especially in 87. Loved Steve Alford. Personally I think he would have 4 National Championships if not for the injury to Henderson in 93...when the dadgum Cheats won.
Knight was a great, great, coach. Maybe got more out of the talent he had than any coach ever. Did I hear or read once that he only had one player ever make an NBA All Star team?
But when he did the drive by handshake with Coach K after Duke beat them in 92.. I could no longer defend him.
There are people we all know in life that sadly can never let anything go..always have to have the last word...always have to be right...Sad way to live IMHO.
