Oooh, looked at my review from almost 2 years ago. I liked it, too.

I found this to be a very nice, full-bodied pilsner. Don't really detect much up-front hops. IBUs at 2 and ABV at 4.7%, pale straw, a little darker than most pils'.
Had a second one I liked it so much, on tap at The Pour House in Short Pump while watching the Devils yesterday.

Their "base" imperial stout (you'll read why with reviews 2 and 3 ). Black as night, viscous as Valvoline, dark chocolate-y as Ghiradelli with a splash of espresso. I'll guess 60 IBUs with an ABV of 10.4%
    From tonight:

    Dire Wolf-Wolf's Ridge Brewing

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle out of a 4 pack into a Founder's snifter. Ahh, wonderful memories. Seductive nose of baker's chocolate, toffee and dark roast coffee. Viscous pour with a smooth and silky, yet chewy mouthfeel. The chocolate is semi-sweet with molasses and dark caramel with a mildly bitter coffee finish. Moderately boozey with the same ABV as the draft from last summer and I'll wager the same IBU range. I might have a slice of Mrs. dd's nearly famous and freshly baked pumpkin bread with pee-cans and dark chocolate morsels with the second half of my snifter...

Haven't had it for 10 years, I'd bet. Readily available in NC. Guessing readily available in many US locations, too.

Had it many times, solid beer. Fort Bragg, CA is three hours North of San Francisco, a third of the way to Kyle Singlerville (Medford, OR). Brewing is a distant third in agriculture products from Mendocino County behind weed and wine.

Do think that German style Pilsners are waaay under represented in American brewing. Germans know a bunch about beer and Pilsners are far and away the most popular style beer in Germany.

Did watch the Lville game in a local brew pub and the owner seemed unusually familiar with Duke hoops. No connection to the University and has never been in NC, but fell in love with the '86 team and consequently named his son Cameron (like countless Duke friends' kids and/or dogs).

A beer rep from a startup brewery (Calicraft) in an East Bay suburb (Walnut Creek) next to where Seth Curry's bro lives was there and they have a decent Koelsch. Contract brewed in San Jose via Gordon-Biersch.

    Office just closed.

    I'm thirsty.

    Founders Raspberry the wild one

    Smells like raspberry scented barnyard.

Tastes like a pretty good impersonation of a raspberry lambic.

Would love to declare it absurdly expensive, however I find it to be an exceptional bargain given the taste and quality.

    Thanks devildeac!

Special occasion: Devils/Heels in NYC. Going Unibroue Grand Reserve 17. Dark ale brewed on lees. Delicious as those Grayson Allen 3's.

    Hmmmm.

From Founders Raspberry wild one to SN Golden IPA to Aviator Blue Blood rivalry.

    I intensely dislike Carolina.

Founders Kentucky Breakfast stout (KBS) 2016

Never had one before, not sure when I will see it again.
    Excited!

Smells like vanilla, coffee, wet wood and some bourbon.

    Wow.
A bit thick, rich and sweet up front with a slap you in the face bourbon finish.

I waited an extremely long 15 minutes to take the first sip.

Splitting the 12oz bottle with the loveninja means the 6oz of memories needs to go a long way.

For a strong (and strong tasting) beer, I'm drawn to consume it quickly.

Not a fair comparison considering I don't like licorice- where the Abyss fell short of the hype ( due to my palate, not the beer), KBS exceeds its lofty reputation.

I recently read an article where the Founders brewer recommended (and preferred himself) drinking KBS fresh.

I have no reference with which to judge. All I can say is if I ever found a treasure trove of KBS, I'd buy what I could reasonably consume or share.

There are layers of flavour- vanilla, followed by coffee, followed by bourbon.

Will be interesting to see how Skillet and County Stout stack up.

Now I really want to find a Founders CBS.

So much for the great coffee stout taste off

    New Belgium Cherry Almond ale

The "only available in this 12 pack" beer.

    Poured like a brown ale.

The nose is very almond-y, like marzipan, with the distinct Fat Tire sharpness interwoven.

Kinda tastes like Fat Tire with a hint of cherry.

Meh. Guess I should have gone with the Terrapin 12 pack that had some sort of limited IPA can instead.

    Founders Frootwood 2017

Cherry ale aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels.

Poured like a pink cherry soda.
White frothy head which disappeared quickly.

Smells like cherry, and maybe a little cherry cough syrup.

Robitussin up front, middle and back.
A bit of a dry finish.
Hunting for the bourbon barrel or the maple.

Tasty in an odd sort of way.
Smells better than it tastes, maybe mild maple syrup in the finish.

A pairing with a vanilla cake or a red fruit dessert, or maybe mild soft cheeses, would go well with Frootwood.

A fifteen minute rest should allow Frootwood to open up.
I poured the beer into my laser cut DFH "snifter" which original would create a DFH logo in the head. Rules that came with the glass were that the laser etching was fragile, hand wash only.

In spite of following the directions, no DFH logo appeared. Perhaps it was protesting its use for a non-DFH beer.

Still very Robitussin-y after 15 minutes to warm up.
A bit more alcohol numb on the tongue, which is not surprising for 8% ABV.

Frootwood is the first in Founders Barrel Aged series.

I'd say leading with Frootwood is an inauspicious start.
This is a good not great beer.
At 8% I don't think this is a good candidate for cellaring.

Potentially a good dessert beer, or a one at a time beer. I can't see having more than one at a time. At $4/bottle, this loses in comparison to $3/can for Hopslam.
At $2/bottle or $8-9/four pack Frootwood would be a fair value. At $16 for the four pack, there are a lot of other better options.

If you can buy a single, well worth trying to see if it strikes your palate.
It's what I would have done if I rewound my purchase yesterday.

    Nicely done, fuse.

I compared it to Manhattan or Old Fashioned cocktails when I had my $4 half pint at Bottle Revolution Friday afternoon shortly after the office closed. Mild bourbon notes, more cherry soda notes and little maple presence. I guess if I saw a 4 pack at Total Wine for $13-14 with a buck off coupon, I'd buy it and have a bottle or two myself to "compare" with the draft version and gift/trade the others.

Reading what others taste=yet another benefit to this thread.
