The latter has, at minimum, an IPA and a blonde ale, although I have not yet tasted either one.

What’s the reward for running an incredibly slow mile as part of a 3 person, 3 mile relay?

How about a trip to Trophy Maywood and a Trophy Oktrophyfest.

Something a bit different about it, a great cure for runner’s cough.

Then home for a sample of a spiced wheat Sam Adams that was decent if a bit warm.

Finish with a Sycamore Mountain Candy IPA.
    Hoppy, not fruity as described.

Gee, wonder why that mile was slow?

Another 12 ounce bottle from the fall Catch and Release fall sampler pack, IIRC. From AW. Thanks!

And yes, I will thank anyone who trades/shares/gives me beer, even if I didn't like the beer which is the case here. I don't know if it was a bad bottle but the (assumed) best by date of 11/12/17 stamped on the label shouldn't make it "stale," nor should "storage" be an issue as it came from a 12 pack carrier, so I'll guess it was the combination of Cascade and Centennial I didn't like as it smelled and tasted like orange PineSol. Pour was a slightly cloudy orange-yellow with a modest head, not a mountain of foam that I've seen before with a "turned" beer. The nose wasn't pleasant but wasn't "skunked," nor did it smell like old, wet cardboard. It didn't taste like wet cardboard either. The grains (2 Row, Munich, Wheat, Midnight Wheat) weren't a "strange brew," nor were there any adjuncts. IBUs right in line with the pale ale style at 39 and the ABV was pretty standard at 5.7%, so it was not a "balance" issue either. I hadn't had one of these in 10+ years and can't say I'd re-visit but I am looking forward to the other two varieties from the litter, both fruity or fruited IPAs.

Sorry about that. Now I'm hesitant to try mine. AW.

No apology needed. You've brought soooo many superb beers to tailgates that I'll never complain about one that didn't tickle my palate. I'd be very interested to read what yours tasted like.

Found a 4 pack at Burial that I think will be nice for an early tailgate.

Also debating on what else to pull from the fridge...

Simple name. Amazing beer. Labeled as a bourbon barrel aged breakfast stout. Yep, I'd sip this for a couple hours before a noon kickoff in Devils's Alley.

Pour was a dark, dark mahogany with a 1/2" head into a couple snifters as I shared the bomber (well, sort of) with our younger daughter tonight. Nose of Nestle's morsels and bourbon. Tantalizing tastes of dark, dark chocolate, booze and a very mild coffee finish. There's maybe a hint of black strap molasses and licorice here but they are really minor players. No IBUs listed but I'll guess 40-50. The ABV is 11.8% and after about 2/3 of this bomber, it's pretty apparent . We both enjoyed some homemade caramel corn and roasted/glazed mixed nuts with this.

Credit goes to ricks68 for this choice and delivery this spring. Thanks!

10/25 for me from the list, including the ubiquitous SA-BL.

    That’s a lot of beer.

Has anyone ever been to Resident Culture Taproom in Charlotte? Comes highly recommended by bartenders at Wanker Clown in Cornelius, NC. RCT is a new spot founded by a former brewer at Russian River in Sonoma County, CA. Russian River was unscathed by the fires.

I'll have a couple for tonight and Friday night and then perhaps half a dozen Saturday after tailgate (that means probably 6-8 of us will have about that many four ounce samples each). Heck, yea, that's doable.

Agreed. They did as well with their Kolschella offering. Three guesses as to the style ....

Also a solid beer. 4.5% in this heat hits the spot.

    Doing my part for today.

Clawhammer remains the best Octoberfest in my memory, with maybe OMB Mecktoberfest having a slight edge.

Paired with brats, german potato salad, twas a mini Octoberfest gala at the fuse house tonight.

    Sam Adams Octoberfest

    The best easily accessible Octoberfest.

Not quite in the same league as Clawhammer, but pretty darn close.

    Southern Tier Harvest

You can keep your Creme Brulees, Mochkas, Warlocks, etc.

My money on the best Southern Tier beer is their Harvest.

Rich, musty, hoppy. A fantastic fall beer.

At 6.7% ABV, its not really a beer to underestimate.

Well worth your time as a spectacular fall seasonal.

As a side note, I did see the Deschutes fresh hop beer in a new beer store in Morrisville.

    August West redeems himself! Thanks!

This was bottle #3 from their summer sampler pack and is labeled a tropical IPA and a tasty one, too.

Pour was an orange-tinged sunshine hue with a moderate head. This smells like a tropical fruit punch with pineapple most apparent, followed by some mango, papaya and hints of grapefruit and there are no adjuncts! Tastes line up with the aromas pretty closely. It's a bit "light" for an IPA with IBUs of 57 and the ABV at 5.5% but the bitterness is quite mild and the balance is pretty smooth. Sip on a warm fall afternoon or with a sweet and sour chicken or shrimp entree. Ingredients include some hops that are totally new to me:

    Malt Bill: 2Row, Pilsner, Carapils
    Hops: Bravo, Mosaic, Denali
Dry Hop: Mosaic, Denali, Citra, Waimea

Feels like a cheat to offer a second opinion on Founder’s Mosaic Promise.

It is a fruity hop delight.

Pineapple and maybe peach on the nose.

Refreshingly fruity balanced bitter on the palate.

Debating buying this beer by the case. Seek this one out for sure.

We need to get uh no involved in this thread as he swore in one of the threads on the EK Forum that Americans can't make "authentic" Oktoberfest biers. Let's see if he'll join us...
