Thread: Ymm, Beer

Thanks for the tip, Devildeac. I even checked out Ecch beer thread.

I see you like sours. I dabble now and then. At City Hops in nyc (visit if you get the chance) Nick the bartender breaks out some stuff now and then. The other day he had a bunch of stuff from OEC (Ordinem Eccentrici Coctores) in Ct. This one was pretty good, but they have better ones. They go in for blending wild ale with a berliner, or aging in Pinot Noir and Gin barrels, or other crazy combos:

That was a quick trip over here. Thanks for joining the discussion. Fuse is quite the sour fan (beers that is, not personality ). Destihl Brewing in Illinois makes quite a few sours, some rivaling (exceeding?) the Belgian ones.

Never heard of OEC but out of the 5000+ breweries (or are we up to 6000 now?) in the US, I guess I've heard/sampled from a few hundred and still sipping.

Those do sound like some wild combos, but, there are a lot of different trends in the US in the craft beer industry, goses, Berliner Weisses, hybrids, fruiting, new/experimental hops, barrel-aging, etc.

Hope you become a regular poster here. Much better than fighting about hoops .

This is, without question, the "neighborhood pub" area of DBR. In more ways than one. Here, if there's a "fight," it's about hops, not hoops.

Or, if peppers/"heat" belong in craft ales or not.

A bit late to post this but which of these has anyone tasted or even heard of the beers/breweries?

DLD tickets go on sale in ten days - https://www.darklordday.com/

Really want to make the trip one year, but it's a hefty price to pay.

    I've had:

Klipspringer and Breton Blonde by Metazoa.
    Fieldhouse Wheat by Triton.

I've been to Mile Wide, but didn't have their lone beer represented on the list. Unfortunately, I haven't had the Sun King variation on the list either.

    Thanks for the notification!

    Contemplating. Seriously.

That's a pretty typical price for this, but, I agree it ain't cheap. I believe last year it was $180 with no tote bag and you got 4 Dark Lord 2017 and 1 rare variant or 2 previous annual releases. For 2016 I seem to recall a $200 price with a tote bag, a similar number of bombers plus a food voucher.

We had the Balaton Busey variant when we visited in November.

Oh wow, I missed some on the list the first time through

    Locally, I can add:

    Cherry Busey - Sun King
    Deduction - Taxman

I've been to Chilly Water but haven't tasted Smoke on the Lager. Do love the name though. Also visited Silver Harbor in Michigan a few months back.

Believe that covers all of the surrounding states.

Quite a list, and I only skimmed through it. Foothills' Torch Pilsner for sure. And PBR is really on this list?

Yep. I've seen some other swill on past lists, usually in the American adjunct lager category. Perhaps they include that category to appease the big boys or maybe as a joke.

Shiner Bock (probably 20 years ago )
    Torch Pilsner
    Deduction
    Riserva
Penn Gold (probably 20 years ago )
    Pumpkin Ale-Schlafly
    Wee Heavy-Duck Rabbit

That's it for me. There are some great names on that list.

I've had the Ale Smith Wee Heavy. That's a good'un. The Sly Fox Grisette. Nice enough but nothing to seek out really. And Shiner Bock. That's funny. My nephew was in town and asked me to get some Shiner Bock for him. Almost picked up the Holiday Shiner (a dunkel with peach and pecan) until I spied the regular Shiner on a lower shelf. OK. Nothing special.

Haven't had the Holiday Shiner for several years but recall it being good but not outstanding.

Ditto. And the regular Shiner Bock falls into the same category for me. It sorta/kinda ties with, like, Dos Equis.

    Legal News

Apparently Olde Mecklenburg and NoDa have sued to challenge North Carolina's beer distribution law(s). The case is before Superior Court Judge Allen Baddour. The surname sounds familiar.
