Good on you guys for highlighting Mase, they just released the first batch of Real +/-, the figures meant to represent controlling for all variables, and he is 20th in the whole league!

I think the best argument comes from the Clippers. It's horrible watching them when JJ is out with his back injury. He's an integral cog to what should be a top 2-3 team in the West. Emphasis on should.
Great to hear Mason is playing well in Portland. Talk about coming from a crummy situation in Brooklyn. Not sure if they have a draft pick this decade. I'm not sure about Portland's situation but at least they have an exciting young point guard for him to play with, and they can't have any less picks than the Nets.

Wow, that list puts him in some impressive company . . . although the fact that Marvin Williams is ranked 21 single-handedly makes me question the whole statistic . Mason's primary value comes on the defensive end, but he is also well above average on offense, too, which makes him different from a lot of the other guys on the list who are valued much more heavily on one side of the ball or the other. Also interesting to note, old man Duncan still leads the league in Defensive Plus/Minus by a wide margin. Could we start making the argument that he's perhaps the best two-way player of all time?
An observation, if you sort the list by Defensive Real Plus/Minus, the top 40 is populated almost entirely by centers or power forwards. Even Draymon Green, who is high on the list, is listed as a SF but plays as a small-ball power forward for much of his court time. Do you think this is a potential flaw in the stat (it overstates the defensive contribution of post players) or does it reflect the fact that it is simply much more difficult to make a positive defensive contribution from the guard positions, no matter how good you are?
Edit - I also happened to notice that Jah is rated as the absolute worst player in the league by RPM. Surely this reflects some limitations with the statistic, even if supposedly takes into account the play of your teammates.
Yeah, Mason has completely surprised me with how good he's been in the league. When he was coming out of Duke, I thought he'd be an end-of-rotation big at best. But, I had always imagined him as a PF in the league and couldn't see how he would fit in there. Now that I see him as a starting center that rebounds, sets screens, and rim-runs, it makes more sense (but is still somewhat surprising). Mason's playing in a league that is increasingly downsizing, and now his skillset fits what NBA teams want in a center.
Real plus-minus is basically box-score-agnostic* stat, so while it has it's limitations, I don't think a bias toward a particular position should be among them.
Jah's standing in "advanced" stats is actually somewhat unusual. He's relatively high in PER, and a player who is high in PER but low in plus-minus is very frequently a poor defender, since PER doesn't really capture defense well. But Jah's defensive plus-minus, while not good, is not really the biggest thing dragging him down--the large negative comes from his offense.
* As I understand it, "real-plus minus" is "prior-informed" by box-score stats, i.e., when there isn't much data, it uses box scores to estimate what the player's plus-minus is. As there is more data on a player, this effect diminishes, so my guess is it doesn't matter much for a regular starter like Jah.
For me the list is quite short: unCheat.
The rest are non-entities.
So Jahil got in a fight in the streets of Boston. As someone on Twitter said, the Sixers have more knockdowns (1) this year than wins (0).
Here's a video. Not very flattering.

Disappointing, I thought Jah was more mature than this. Losing has clearly not been good for him. I wish he could have been drafted by a different organization.
Seth Curry getting some action for the Kings while they were blown out by the Warriors. Put up 3 quick 3's in 9 minutes against his brother's team. Skip to the end to see some cute Steph Curry reaction. Said he forgot where he was and started cheering for Seth like it was at Duke. Tried to play it cool for a later 3 and Draymond called him out and said it's aright we know you're happy.

Goes to show you how dedicated the Sixers are to the process. All they need is one shooter like Seth and they might actually get a win.
Watching the 76ers game now. They have two legitimate NBA players in Okafor and Grant. When Noel comes back from injury, that makes three. I'm pretty sure that the other guys would not be the 12th guy on any other NBA team. How can they even compete with the talent disparity?
They don't...
On another positive note, Lance Thomas got the start for the Knicks in place of an injured Melo. Put up a solid 15 on 6/10 but couldn't hit the game-winner (yes, Lance Thomas is attempting game-winners for legitimate NBA teams). Unfortunately the Knicks gave up a lead late in the fourth and lost in overtime. Lance had some great D on Harden though. Maybe he learned from JJ.
Seth Curry followed his perfect shooting night vs. his brother with another solid game, 8pts on 2-3 FG & 2-2 FT. He's shooting an absurd 67 FG% and 75 3FG% so far this year!!! He's also sporting a nifty 3:1 a:to.
MP2 had a solid 2x-double (10&13) for Portland while Gerald Hendererson continues to get back in the groove there, with 6pts.
Winslow had another stat-stuffer night, although not flashy withe O, going 1-4 FG for 4pts, 6rebs, 4ast. McRoberts had another understated but solid game at the point PF reserve spot. Deng didn't play.
Hood had 12pts on 12 shots for Utah.
Jabari had 16 on 13 FG + 4rebs. MP1 didn't generate any stats in 4mins, for Milwaukee.
JJ had 14pts on 14 shots, + 3 assists, while Austin Rivers had 6pts on 8 shots.
Coach refused to let Singler get off the bench for OKC.
Hood took three at end to break Warriors streak but obviously missed what was not a great shot. He had just made the shot on previous possession to bring Jazz within one.
