Duke women's golf is in the NCAA championships at Eugene, Oregon, beginning Friday. This is an exhausting marathon for the top teams: four days of medal play, Friday through Monday. Then two days of match play among (I believe) the top eight teams, resulting in a championship. The women walk and carry their clubs. Duke made the semis last year, faltering against Baylor when it appeared our slender players were at a disadvantage in the second 18-hole match on Tuesday against the more robust Baylor team.
The Golf Channel website says there will be coverage on Monday for the final medal round and on Tuesday and Wednesday for the match play quarters, semis and finals.
Duke was 4th at the Baton Rouge regionals, not one of our best regional showings, but the talent is there, and I am hopeful we will have a strong performance this weekend.

'Interesting feature is the accommodation made for the BYU team, whose school forbids athletic competition on Sunday. BYU players will play their "Sunday" round -- i.e., third round -- on Thursday, using the Sunday pin positions. Yep, it isn't totally fair. There could be a monsoon on Sunday and fair skies Thursday, or the other way around'

'When I got on the bus for my first road game at Duke, I saw that every player was carrying textbooks or laptops. I coached in the SEC for 25 years, and I had never seen that before, not even once.' - David Cutcliffe to Duke alumni in Washington, DC, June 2013
