Mexico, which is not using the same team or coach as they did in the recent FIBA Americas tournament, came back to beat Honduras 82-77 in Group A. A pair of brothers, from the Banegas-Flores family led the way in the loss although they are listed under different surnames. Christopher, who went to NJIT, had 26 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists and Marco, who just finished at UMass-Lowell, had 17 points. The hosts ended the day by easing past Guatemala 85-59. In the win, ex-Jackson State player Kay Martinez had 24 points and Marcos Castrillo, who just finished his DII career, had 12 points.

At Eurobasket, teams tried to win their classification game to avoid the dreaded extra 7th place game that would be the final chance at a spot in the final Olympic qualifying tournament next summer. Greece shook off a slow start to win in a wild 97-90 game against Latvia. Vassilis Spanoulis had 16 points while other players with more recent NBA experience also contributed as Giannis Antetokounmpo had 15 points and 7 rebounds and Nick Calathes had 15 points. Italy then beat the Czech Republic 85-70 to also secure themselves more basketball next summer. The NBA trio led the way as Andrea Bargnani had 21 points, Danilo Gallinari had 15 points and 8 rebounds, and Marco Belinelli had 12 points and 7 rebounds with former draft pick Alessandro Gentile adding 15 points. In the loss, ex-NBA player Jan Vesely had 26 points and 12 rebounds and former draft pick Tomas Satoransky had 12 points and 6 assists.

The last game of the day was the main attraction as another France and Spain battle would determine the first team in Europe to qualify for the Olympics directly. The game was every bit as exciting as advertised as it went into overtime before Spain silenced the hosts and 26,922 spectators 80-75. Pau Gasol was unstoppable again with 40 points and 11 rebounds as another player with NBA experience in Sergio Rodriguez helped out with 15 points. France's contingent with NBA experience led the way as Nicolas Batum had 14 points and 7 rebounds, Nando De Colo had 14 points, Joffrey Lauvergne had 11 points, Tony Parker had 10 points and 6 assists, and Mickael Gelabale had 10 points.
