Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud today announced he has formally named Assistant Men's Basketball Coach Mike Hopkins as head coach-designate. Hopkins will succeed Coach Jim Boeheim following the 2017-18 men's basketball season. In March, Boeheim announced that he will retire in three years.

One-and-done: Bo Ryan to step down after next season.

Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan says he plans to retire after next season.

Ryan made the surprising announcement on Monday. Ryan says he considered retiring after the Badgers lost in the national championship game to Duke, but athletic director Barry Alvarez told him to take some time to think about it.

After mulling his future for a few months, the 67-year-old Ryan says he has decided to coach one more season. He also says he hopes longtime assistant Greg Gard will be chosen to replace him.

Perhaps, but is Wisconsin a better job than UVa? Or more pointedly, is it enough of a better job to offset the fact that Bennett has already earned the support of the UVa fanbase, and would have to start all over in Madison?

The Bo Ryan announcement triggered this ESPN article by Myron Medcalf, who speculated on other names likely to ride off into the sunset. K is mentioned in the article, but unless health issues come up, he isn't going anywhere: K and the Devils are on a roll in both recruiting and on-court results.

Anyway, Adrian Woj writes about (a) the Kings talking to Calipari about controlling basketball operations as well as coaching and (b) the Kings' attempt to mount a fire-for-cause action against Karl, due to presumed insubordination in trying to drum up a trade for Cousins. The latter IMHO (where the H is silent) is unlikely to succeed but may enable the Kings to negotiate a more favorable agreement with Carl.
