Depending on the outcome of the O'Bannon case, Texas is prepared to pay a $10,000 annual stipend to all athletes on scholarship.

I wonder how this will affect Duke if it comes to pass.

'When I got on the bus for my first road game at Duke, I saw that every player was carrying textbooks or laptops. I coached in the SEC for 25 years, and I had never seen that before, not even once.' - David Cutcliffe to Duke alumni in Washington, DC, June 2013
there would be severe cuts to some teams, i believe. The university already props up the athletics department to a tune of 15 million a year, or so, and many of the faculty already balk at that number. I would very surprised if they bowed down to an extra 2 million to pay students. That being the case, the money would have to come from some other athletics department line item, or from increased revenue/donations. now, maybe we could swing that...but as sage said, not a drop in the bucket.
