I was surprised to see Douglas and Singleton's names here, as those are two guys I expected to be in the NBA for awhile, especially fairly recent lottery pick Singleton.

After seeing Douglas's attempts to be a backup point guard last year with my Warriors, I can see why he was not able to find another NBA gig. Now he gets the chance to find at least enough of an offensive groove to contribute a little on that end while still playing defense.

Given Singleton's NBA career to this point, this was probably a good choice for him. Instead of getting a handful of minutes over the season he gets the chance to be the primary weapon and play around 36 minutes a night for at least 40 games. If players do well in China, they can stay there and make better than the NBA minimum. The other factor is that instead of languishing on an NBA bench, they get the shot at catching the eye of an NBA scout during the Chinese season and making the jump across to the end of the NBA season after their Chinese season is over much like our Shavlik Randolph did for two straight seasons. As loing as China is willing to pay, it is actually a pretty solid option for borderline NBA players, if the player is willing to take the longer view at getting back in the NBA.

I must admit i'm pretty surprised to see Josh Hairston's name in this thread. He was a guy who i didn't think had much professional upside. He just didn't show very much while at Duke. Although not much different that Marty Pocius (in terms of total points scored), at least with Marty you could see the athleticism that can translate to a good game. Congrats to Josh though, hope he plays professionally for as long as he can!

There are leagues all around the world that take Americans of a variety of skill levels. Josh is playing in one of the weaker leagues in Europe, but it is a nice place to live and compared to other leagues you are more likely to get paid on time. The important thing is that he found a place where he gets a lot of minutes and is a featured player in their offense. The key overseas is to keep playing for that next short-term contract, either with the same team or to impress opponents or attract attention from other leagues.
