Maybe this be off topic, but it is football.
Josh Shaw is an excellent cornerback for USC. Could have gone to NFL after last season but came back. Elected captain. Everyone seems to like him.
Then the story broke over the weekend that he sprained both ankles jumping from the second story to save his nephew who could not swim and was in a swimming pool.
USC fans go into hero worship mode for a couple of days.
Then story is questioned. New story is that in domestic dispute he jumped to avoid police.
However police report says there was a robbery call (not domestic violence) from his girl friend but Josh is not a suspect.
Josh's sister, mother of the nephew, says his story is true. But she was not there.
Stay tuned.

USC cornerback Josh Shaw admitted to university officials that he lied about how he suffered two sprained ankles this past weekend...
According to USC, Shaw has obtained legal counsel

Probably not a best practice to come up with a fake hero cover story if you want to minimize media coverage for something that includes retaining counsel
Very weird indeed especially given how well everyone speaks of this kid. He has now admitted he lied about the circumstances of his injury and has been suspended indefinitely from the team. Hate to see that. Hopefully he was not involved in anything illegal and gets to play part of his Senior Season. Would hate to see it go the other way.
So, just to recap:
At USC, if you do something to injure yourself and then lie about it, but otherwise don't hurt anyone else, you're suspended indefinitely.
At UNC, if you gang-beat and concuss a teammate, you're suspended...well, not at all, until the press picks up on it. Then you're suspended for the Liberty game.
Just think what would have happened if even one of the mob of unc players had been educated enough to be able to concoct a fanciful tale of heroism?
Of course, it amuses me to consider a bunch of unc administrators trying to figure out how to hang a Helms banner for heroism over the playing field at Keenan. I am certain casualties would result.
