As he was at Duke- Jabari is very good around the hoop- assuming he can get there. The problem is that his shooting is very inconsistent. He will need to put lots of hours in the gym to improve. His inability to shoot it well will make it very hard to get to the basket in the NBA as folks will play off him. Jabari is going to have his struggles this year- and will need to work it out. Fortunately no one watches the Bucks play and expects much so he can have a year to learn.

Seth can shoot the ball and score very quickly. His ball handling is improved. The Suns could be a good team for him. Hornacek may see a little of himself in Seth.

Miles just does his thing. He is working on his jumper. The Plumlee boys are suited for the NBA.

Derek Harper was doing color and made the point that Jabari seems better catching and shooting than creating his own outside shot. The lesson, to me, is that he needs to do a much better job of moving without the ball, and he also needs to get his butt into the block where he can really abuse people with his wide rear end. Still, though, he is lethal on the break and makes plenty of jaw dropping plays - it'll be interesting what genius coach Jason Kidd can design for him.

For what its worth, Seth looks like he put on about 20 pounds of muscle and Miles looks even huger, if that is possible.

I didn't know about his mid range stepback jumper. He seems to be able to knock that down pretty consistently. I originally wanted the Cavs to draft Jabari, but now, I think it's clear that Wiggins was the right choice. They had no way of knowing LeBron was coming back, but he's going to be a perfect fit on the wing opposite LeBron. Both of them can play lock down D, and both are unstoppable on the fast break. Bill Simmons thinks LeBron is going to train Wiggins to be his Pippen, the way MJ did it. In a way, I think Pippen might be the best NBA comp for Wiggins. Awesome athlete, great defensive player, not a great shooter right now, but should develop into a good one. Now just think about if Jordan and Pippen had a third guy like Kyrie Irving . . . i'm so pumped for some Cavs basketball this year.
I didn't get to watch the game, but here was ESPN's take:

Andrew Wiggins, Cleveland Cavaliers | Grade: C+
Wiggins found ways to score inside, but his aversion to dribbling was well on display Friday. The athleticism, defense and transition game are all there. One of the most exciting plays of the entire day was a half-court alley-oop that just barely went over the fingertips of the flying Wiggins. Yes, 18 points look good, but a 1-for-8 night from 3-point range looks a little worse, and the way he got those points still needs to improve.

Jabari Parker, Milwaukee Bucks | Grade: A-
All we hear about Parker is his skills as a scorer, but on Friday we saw some of his distributing ability. The rookie might only have totaled one assist, but he moved the ball within the Bucks' offense and had a couple of beautiful interior passes to set up his teammates. Parker still scored at a commendable rate -- 17 points on 11 shots -- but in Las Vegas, between the facilitating and the nine boards, he showed exactly why he’s so much more than just a scorer.

I watched the first of Jabari's game on Friday and I thought he looked really good. He made two or three NBA moves and had a couple of nice assists too. Wiggins also looked good. If he did tire in the second half it might have been because of the heat in the gym which was supposed to have been above 90 degrees F. The announcers also remarked on how much time he was on the court.

    Their Day 3 writeup in interesting as well;

    http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/pos...e-day-3-grades

"Jabari Parker, Milwaukee Bucks | Grade: D
Dreadful shot selection, bad decision-making, mental lapses defensively and selfish play marred Parker’s night, as he seemed uncomfortable with the idea of letting anyone else make a play with the ball. There’s pretty much no reason for someone with Parker’s speed and strength to draw just one shooting foul, especially against this level of competition. This was a troubling performance for the second overall pick."

"Seth Curry, Phoenix Suns | Grade: A
It runs in the family, right? Seth brought an NBA vibe to the proceedings, as there was something comforting about seeing a Curry wearing the No. 30 jersey bomb from deep and deliver daggers. Curry finished with 26 points on a tidy nine attempts, and with perimeter shooting at a premium around the league -- just look at what Stan Van Gundy’s paying in Detroit -- you have to think Curry helped his chances to land a roster spot this season with this barrage."

A little harsh on Parker. I watched the whole game. It was a poor shooting performance, but dreadful and selfish are adjectives that didn't describe his game at all. Parker was setting screens the whole game, and had trouble rolling to basket and getting passes off the pick and roll. When he got the ball, it was typically in no mans land around 15-20 feet, tried to make a play and would take a jumpshot or turn it over, or pull it out past the three point line and pass it. Overall the Milwaukee offense was disorganized. That said, he rebounded well, I noticed him blocking out and battling for board. He made one particularly bad defensive lapse, which I think came from his time at Duke not wanting to be in foul trouble. He had position in front of a guy on a semi fast break and just backed up out of bounds to let him score rather than stand straight up and take a block/charge call.

One of the announcers made a comment that Parker was more comfortable on catch and shoot jumpers, and that he was off balance on shots after dribbling...I would have to agree with this.

The dribble scissor kick 3 was the bane of Jabari's existence in January. I am not sure why he returned to it. I also think he will be much more successful in a real offense and not summer league every man for himself offense.

Every man for himself may have been part, in particular, when Wolters was on the bench no one looked for Jabari much. Especially Taylor. But I can't say I blame them. Parker is a #2 pick and will be playing heavy minutes no matter what, why pass it and watch him brick when you have fraction of possessions in X number of games to show your game. The rest of these guys (minus Wolters, Giannis) are fighting for their lives.

Who's the guy nobody can stay in front of? Or the guy the other team switches their best defensive player onto? Conversely, who's the guy who keeps making his move, getting nowhere, and launching a fade-away jumper (whether it goes in or not)? Who's the big defender who nobody will challenge at the rim? Conversely, who's the big who the players practically salivate when they get him one-on-one or on a switch? Which players cause the fans to perk up -- or almost groan -- every time they touch the ball?

If you know what you're watching for, you can tell who's a *player* and who isn't. The problem is figuring that out when you're getting your information via box scores or third-hand from people who are mesmerized by, e.g., Olek Czyz's breakaway dunks.

I second SilkyJ's agreement. You can learn a lot watching a newbie in Summer League. I argued this a lot to no avail back when our guys were playing in the NC Pro-Am. It's certainly not the same as watching them against the ACC schedule or in this case the NBA schedule, but there are still things you can see in my opinion that are tell-tell signs if a kid can make it or not. I admit I am much better at evaluating a rising freshman the summer prior to his College Freshman season than I am evaluating a kid in the NBA who has never played NBA ball before. I just dont watch and study the NBA enough (Hijack alert! Other than watching every minute of the NBA Finals this year and recognizing the Spurs have the best offense on Planet Earth. Man was that a thing of beauty).

Back to the NBA Summer League, great for Hood with his 29. I think we all can agree he is going to make a fine Pro with his skillset and size. Same with Jabari (but my goodness son, for the love of the game, get some help learning how to play defense, and secondly for the love of all Duke fans, please get in shape! That 82 game schedule of 48 minute games is brutal. Physical Conditioning is critical. Still love you though JP. You will reach your goals)

I didn't initially realize that Austin wasn't playing summer league, and some googling reveals that his situation in New Orleans is far from settled. Despite losing Anthony Morrow and Brian Roberts, this recent article makes it look like they aren't committed to him in a meaningful way:

    http://www.nola.com/pelicans/index.s...offseason.html

I am guessing he isn't playing to make sure he doesn't get injured in case he is waived or something like that.

Man, Hood is just continually getting disrespected, dropping probably 5 spots lower in the draft than he should have gone, and the guy doing the highlight said he's from NC State . . . come on, man.

Been reading about Hood. I think teams are going to regret not taking him earlier. But I think he landed in a really nice team with the Jazz. Hood may not start, but he will absolutely get plenty of time with that sweet stroke. I also like that Hood wants to be a top defender in the league. With his shot, defense, and decent athleticism, he could be a top "3-and-D" player, a la Danny Green with a more versatile offensive arsenal. Say what you want about Danny Green, but he is a great player who listens to his coach, adds value, and doesn't destroy your salary cap.

Jabari loves offense. I think that's very clear. I wish he'd love defense too...
