    "The Basketball Tournament"

No, not that one, this one:

Basically it is a pro tournament in Philadelphia that started today with 32 teams and will end with a winner take all $500,000 prize (that is divided among team members based on their pre-tournament picked allocations). Besides being a rather interesting concept that has managed to draw in a lot of pro players in their offseasons, top seed Team Barstool features our Dahntay Jones, who is fighting for his $50,000. The top seeds got to pick their opponents and this team challenged itself by picking Barstool Philly, but won 111-84 to move on to tomorrow, where they hope to win two games and advance to Sunday's semifinals. Dahntay had 29 points in 25 minutes (games have 18 minute halves).

Dahntay and his team are two wins away from the money. In the first game today, they beat PUBB (Princeton University Basketball) Champions Tour 68-66. Dahntay had 10 points in 33 minutes. In the quarterfinals, they beat DMV's Finest (featuring many former Maryland and Georgetown players) 83-76 as Dahntay had 24 points and 7 rebounds in 34 minutes to lead his team. On Sunday, they face Big Apple Basketball, which was Rashad McCants's team until he found somewhere more important to be this weekend. They are supposed to give about $225,000 of the prize money to the Big Apple Basketball organization. The other side of the bracket, which has not been chalk like Dahntay's side's 1-4 matchup, has 11 seed PeacePlayers International, which has earmarked $200,000 for the namesake charity, and 10 seed Notre Dame Fighting Alumni, which obviously features a number of former players from Mike Brey's program.

Looks like our own Shavlik Randolph is also on the roster for Team Barstool. But he's listed under his first name "Ronald". I can't ever remember him going by anything but his middle name.

Shav was on the roster, but he like many players listed on their rosters, has not made an appearance. I think Shav is busy dealing with some issues before his next professional season.

No charities will benefit as it will be Dahntay's team against the Nortre Dame alums in the final. Dahntay had 24 points in 38 minutes as his team needed overtime to win 87-81.

The final is tomorrow on ESPN3 at 7:00pm EDT. In keeping with the uncommon format of the tournament, after the semifinals, the two finalists got to pick their preferred home venue. Instead of South Bend, the Notre Dame team opted for Chicago. Dahntay's team picked Boston. Fans then got to vote for the venue online and they chose Boston.

No money for Dahntay as his team falls 72-68. Dahntay started slow but his scoring kept his team in the game as he finished with 21 points in 34 minutes to lead in both categories. Who said that Mike Brey could not win? It will be interesting to see if this tournament is ever done again and if it spawns similar tournaments.
