    Theme?

    So Earljam, you resident rock lyricist, you,

    What would be the theme song for MapAid'08?

    I'm not EarlJam, but the theme song for MapAid is a no-brainer:

    Blind Faith, "Can't Find My Way Home"

    I will get to work on this immediately but here's a start. The show opens up to this tune (kind of a slow but heavy rock ballad):

    Here Come the Maps (courtesy of the band)

    Without a map, we find ourselves directionless;
    Reminds me of some sad, old men.
    Who without Viagra find themselves erectionless;
    Let's make sure this never happens again.

    Where is the U.S., I don't know;
    Never knew about the Pacific Ocean.
    My education failed me so long ago;
    Through this music, we introduce a brand new notion.

    Chorus
    Boys and girls, don't cop an attitude;
    Simply hold out your hands.
    This rock n' roll's your longitude and latitude;
    Here come the maps, courtesy of the bands!

    --------

    Still working on it. We'll get there. All we need is just a little patience.

    -EarlJam

    On the topic of personal cartographic betterment, I give you purposegames.com, a fun way (for varying definitions of fun, though it's fun for me) to learn the location of every country on the planet.

    Shall we have a DBR challenge? My personal bests are nowhere close to the global bests for Europe, Africa, and Asia (I think I'm over a minute on all of them), but 100% completion is a worthy first goal.

    Ever heard Dog Killer (*Michael Vick) do an interview?

    Gawd. Let's say "he doesn't read a lot of books..." and leave it at that...

    Do you ever have a dream where you see yourself standing in sort of sun-god robes on a pyramid with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you?

    Awesome!

    It's always nice to meet fellow members of the Cult of Lazlo Hollyfeld.

    I have a lifelong goal to deploy this one in the wild, but I've never found an occasion where it isn't wildly inappropriate:

    Kent: Uh, I'll catch up with you guys. I have to go to the bathroom.
    Chris Knight: Okay, Kent, but I don't think that's going to help your confidence any, do you?

    I watched part of this show with my husband (under protest). I just want to see the pretty gowns and dish on the not so pretty gowns. Anyway, this particular segment caused my husband to change the channel and say "I am NOT watching anymore of this drek." I did get him to let me see who won (Miss SC finished 5th of the 5 finalists). The only non-blonde, Miss Colorado, won. Actually the first runner-up was a redhead, the three blondes went first. Sigh. I spent my formative years as a natural blonde and somehow I managed to graduate from Duke, how, I wonder?

    But you are right, she went through lower level competitions. If she sounded like this much of an idiot every time she was asked a question, I doubt she would have made it this far.
    Yes, i have been on TV, not national, but on radio news show as well as TV live news broadcasts and news magazine shows and this really is sad.

    Miss SC appears on TODAY show

    The Miss Teen USA pageant contestant who became a YouTube sensation after butchering a question about why many Americans cannot find the U.S. on a world map says she was overwhelmed by her national television appearance and chalks up the experience to being “human.”

    Well I got 1:05 for Europe on my first try - but at least I knew where all the countries were beforehand!

    1:55 first attempt at Asia - only confused Tajikistan and Krygystan - got everything else. Down to 1:14 on 3rd try.
