I'm a huge fan of good customer service and I severely dislike factory-style health care. Thus, I'm often frustrated. Oh well.

Yesterday I had to go to an oral surgeon to have two teeth extracted - one a fairky simple job, the other somewhat complicated. I was sedated, was there for a couple of hours, then my wife drove me home. I slept off the sedation until around 5:00 (love those drugs), then went downstairs and did the rinsing, ice pack, advil thing. Everything went a bit better than I had expected.

At 8:30 the phone rang. It was the oral surgeon calling me (from his home phone - I could tell from the caller ID) to check and see how I was doing. I wouldn't have been surprised by a call from his nurse at the end of the day from the office, but this took my by surprise - a pleasant surprise.

If anyone needs a referral to an oral surgeon let me know - this guy was great in both patient care and quality of work (I'm up this morning and can't tell I ever had anyting done).

I had a similar experience in Jan., '06 with a chiropractor in Raleigh. I was pleasently surprised.

Advil? You didn't get narcotics? Or did he give you narcotics and you just didn't want to take them.

I got some percocet - I took 1/2 a tablet at bedtime. Otherwise I have had no need for them (and I ain't no macho guy - I'll take painkillers in a heartbeat).

However, the EarlJam narcotics disposal facility will have to wait - someday I might need these!

The First Mate has a dentist that calls the house that night plus on Saturday that week to check up, also he'll meet her any hour in the office if there's a problem. Oooh. He has become mine now.

What's the difference between percoset and percodan? I had an extraction done back in '78 and was given percodan. You take one of those babies with some herbal smoke and it'll twist you away. It'll also make you have square babies.

By the by, I got that molar yanked out in Burlington by a guy named Dr. Dewey Carter. Never felt a thing. Especially with those little pills to take home.

I don't know if Carter's still around but I will say that knock out oral surgery is something you never ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,irmh,jshlkiyfyowehwogmkfekmt

Warning: I will be trying to steer you to Belgium, where I went for resurfacing, the UK or India. The U.S. is way behind on this.

There are two oncologists in the Triangle area that I can recommend highly for breast cancer treatment. One was rated the top breast cancer specialist in America by a national women's health magazine. He devised the chemo protocol for my wife who developed an estrogen-receptor negative breast cancer. There were many complicating factors involved; the suite of chemicals useful in the treatment of ER-Neg breast cancer is limited. In no small measure I attribute her survival to the expertise of these two caregivers. Please note, it was just our personal experience; I don't wish to perpetuate an impression that that the quality of oncological expertise here in the Triangle is uneven. My wife's case involved a narrowing window of opportunity that required a bold and unconventional approach that proved, at least to date, successful.
