For years, TV color men and golf writers have been bemoaning the lack of good, young American golfers. Tiger recently turned 30 and the top golfers under 30 were foreign – Scott, Garcia, Baddley, Rose, Immelman and Villegas. The only top American golfer under 30 during this time has been Howell and his career has been up and down. Glancing at the roster for the upcoming Tour playoffs (see link), it appears that there are a host of young Americans who could compete against the best. Mahan, Glover and Snedeker are probably the best of the young American golfers but Watney, Kim, Moore, O’Hair, Na, Overton and Haas are 22-25 years old and they have played well this year. I think that it may be a short time before several of these players join Tiger, Phil and Furyk as the core of the Ryder Cup and President’s Cup teams.
