So why hasn't the Gatorade bath translated to basketball?

Here's why. I am sorry, but assuming everyone is OK, this is rather funny. And its basketball (and safety) related...

Yikes! Let's hope it doesn't spread to basketball--or anything indoors, which is obviously a terrible idea. I'm actually pretty sick of it in football as well.

I will note that there is a video on Duke Blue Planet of his Duke teammates pouring water on Ryan Kelly when he returned to the locker room after the Miami game--but it was small quantities in paper cups and much less likely to be dangerous.

It was fun when the '86 Giants were doing it to Bill Parcells, but I don't particularly like the idea in football. Don't coaches occasionally get pneumonia and such?

In basketball, you have to actually wipe up the mess you make, and if you spill any onto the court before the buzzer I would hope the bench gets T'd up.

    A Lethal Dose?

Famed football coach, George Allen, died 30 days after receiving a "Gatorade" shower following a season-ending victory by his Long Beach State football team in 1990. As was noted, LBSU couldn't actually afford Gatorade, so it was ice water:

    Death

Allen's death may have been indirectly caused by a Gatorade shower. He died on December 31, 1990, from ventricular fibrillation in his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California, at the age of 72. Shortly before his death, Allen noted that he had not been feeling well since some of his Long Beach State players dumped a Gatorade bucket filled with ice water on him following a season-ending victory over the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on November 17, 1990 (he remarked that the university couldn't afford actual Gatorade).
I actually shudder when I see a coach my age [Gasp!] getting a December shower by his players.

    Paul Pierce and Doc Rivers

Paul Pierce gave Doc Rivers a Gatorade bath as the clock was winding down on the Celtics clinching victory in Game 6 the 2008 Finals.

Here is a video (poor quality):
