Well, let's be positive, Braves fans. Maybe Glavine goes in with Smoltz instead of Maddux? The first two weren't free agents.

As I recall, the only voters who didn't vote for Cal voted for nobody that year out of PED-related protest (opinion moment: those writers should just quit). First-ballot status and percentage of vote are, in the end, arbitrary, as no matter how many codgers decide you are worthy of the nebulous honor, you still get a weekend in your honor in upstate New York and a shiny bronze plaque.

Only two voters submited blank ballots as a statement about PED's that year, but Ripken was left off 8 ballots and Gwynn was left off 13.
Demented and sad, but social, right?

Wow, I didn't realize that. I get that people are touchy about PEDs, but how could you vote against Ripken or Gwynn?

More to the point, if you wanted to object to PEDs, why take your anger out on two guys who seemed to thrive and stay clean as other around them were PEDing to the max? It is like saying, "I hate wedding cake and everything it stands for, so I am refusing to eat the cherry pie."

Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?

Isn't that one of the key pillars of DBR? Where would this board be without friends like Doyel or Feinstein or the entire Charlotte Observer?
