    Blair Holliday Recovery Fund

Those sticklers have come on board, and the Blair Holliday Recovery Fund is officially on!

The NCAA granted a waiver for fans to donate through the end of the 2012 football season (including our bowl game), so get those donations in!

And thanks for your patience while we let the cogs finish turning.

How about a sticky with the link to keep this fund raiser easy to find and follow?

A pretty good weekend for the fundraiser. The funds now stand at 30% of the $40,000 goal. Keep giving!

Sorry, I'm in a rush to get out of town but what was the name of the woman in the football office who we can contact about donating Marriott points to the family for their hotel stay?

Contact Peggy Nelson (919) 684-2635 or Mickey Laws (919) 684-2635 in the football administrative offices. They'll know who's handling that.

    Duke press release from 8-4

"A trust endowment in the name of critically injured Duke wide receiver Blair Holliday – titled the Blair Holliday Recovery Trust – has been established to assist the family with medical and rehabilitation expenses.

Checks made out to "Blair Holliday Recovery Trust” may be deposited at any Bank of America nationwide. Interested donors should indicate to bank officials that they would like to make a donation to the Blair Holliday Recovery Trust addressed in California. In addition, checks made out to “Blair Holliday Recovery Trust” may be mailed to P.O. Box 90559, Durham, N.C., 27708, with attention to Peggy Nelson.

“God continues to amaze us through Blair each day,” said Leslie Holliday, Blair’s mother. “Glimpses of Blair's personality are emerging. Blair fist bumps teammates and responds with a head nod when asked questions. Blair recently smiled while hearing his Dad's voice over the phone. We feel blessed that Blair has been given the opportunity to transition to Shepherd. We have mixed feelings about taking NSICU's "Baby" to Atlanta, but we know it's in Blair's best interest. God has opened so many doors and opportunities for Blair's full recovery. Our family will continue to provide updates related to Blair's condition and ask that you continue to #PrayFor8.

“We would like to thank UNC's physicians, nurses, and staff for making a difficult time in our lives the best it could possibly be,” Leslie Holliday continued. “We also can't say enough about our new friends at Marriott's Springhill Suites Durham/Chapel Hill – our home away from home. As we push forward, we would like to remind everyone of why Blair chose Duke to continue his academic and athletic pursuits. During his interview on National Signing Day, Blair said, "They (Duke) were true to their word." They were – and are – men of their words and Blair decided to be a man of his. Demonstrated from the beginning, the commitment by the coaches, administrators and advisors has not waivered and our family is touched by Duke University and its commitment to Blair. Please continue praying for Blair's full recovery. Prayer works!”

A native of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Holliday was injured in a watercraft accident on North Carolina’s Lake Tillery on July 4 and remains hospitalized in Chapel Hill, N.C. Next week, Holliday is expected to be transported to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Ga.

Shepherd Center (shepherd.org) is a world-renowned rehabilitation hospital, specializing in medical treatment, research and rehabilitation for people with spinal cord injury and brain injury. A private, not-for-profit hospital founded in 1975, Shepherd Center is ranked by U.S. News & World Report among the top 10 rehabilitation hospitals in the nation.

Holliday will be admitted to Shepherd’s Acquired Brain Injury Unit.

In the coming weeks, t-shirts featuring the slogans “PRAY FOR 8” and “EVERY DAY IS A HOLLIDAY” will be available for purchase for $25 each in Duke’s Nike Team Store located in Card Gym and online at www.blairholliday.org

On Sunday, September 30, the Lucky Strike bowling alley located at 6801 Hollywood Blvd., in Hollywood, Calif., will support the Blair Holliday Recovery Trust by hosting a fundraising event that includes 90 minutes of bowling including shoe rental, soft drinks and pizza for $40. For more information, call Lucky Strike at (323) 467-7776.

Leslie Holliday continued, “We believe Blair would like to share the following message as he had it tattooed on his right upper arm: Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road to life, and only a few find it. Matthew 7:13-14.

“We will miss seeing Blair's friends each day,” she said. “They have been our rock with solid support and love. Thank you for being true friends and caring for Blair during this time.” "

One of the True Blue 'Cue Crew tent members (Cheermom, the mother of one of our recently graduated cheerleaders) is setting up a donation station at our tent in Blue Devil Alley next Saturday. Everyone is welcome to stop by and put a donation in the jar! You'll find several familiar posters in attendance.

As reported on the front page, Blair is improving all the time - but please don't let him leave your thoughts and prayers. I am sure he has a long road in front of him. Dealing with the communication issues, memory issues, psychological and social problems brain injury causes can be a very hard and lonely struggle for the victim and his family.

Please make sure that you let Blair and the family know that you care - post a message on the website (blairholliday.org,) send cards and letters.

It's still open. They were selling shirts like crazy last night at the game.

The original fund at giveforward has ended, but the trust started by the family is still open.

To donate, go to www.blairholliday.org. You can donate online or at any Bank of America branch. At the site you can also buy the shirt sold at the game.

    Clearing the record

Thanks to everyone for setting me straight!

There were plenty of "Every Day is a Holliday" and "Pray for 8" t-shirts visible at the Saturday night FIU football game.

The www.blairholliday.org web site is indeed active.

Hoping the fund is still going strong, we've had a table set up at our tailgate all season and as far as I know there have been donations given at every game. I read this earlier today; it's another part of Blair's incredible story.
...the human body is a wondrous thing, and while there's a long way to go, Holliday was on the sidelines last night when Crowder hauled in the game-winning touchdown pass from Sean Renfree. Holliday even rang the Victory Bell (painted Duke blue immediately after the game) in the Blue Devils locker room.
