    Discovery lands at Dulles

I was lucky enough to attend the shuttle arrival at Dulles today. Through a connection at NASA, I was with a group of media and other attendees that was taken out onto the tarmac to watch Discovery fly by and then land. We got not one, but two flyovers (the pilots were having a good time apparently).

Anyways, I thought I'd share a few pics I took today.

Nice pics! I took quite a few from the top of my apartment building in Dupont Circle. Great views and they definitely had fun with the flyovers. They circled downtown DC a few times before its final approach to Dulles.

Can't believe I missed it! I watched the very first shuttle landing in my junior high's library, ended up being late for gym and got detention. Only detention in my entire school career - was worth it! Definitely need to head out to Dulles some time soon.

Hey BDBaby, did they do the firetruck water arches that they do for retiring pilots?
I watched as long as I could but then thought I might have missed it. Maybe it's just for pilots and not the shuttle...

You were incredibly close, btw. LUCKYYYYY!!!!!!

About 150 feet in front of the Duke Chapel doors.
A friend of mine got the following shots near Ashburn, VA, which is just north of Dulles. Note the T-38 escort, which looks like a toy in comparison.

I hit the traffic jam from the accident on 28 South this morning that backed from Sterling Blvd past Waxpool/Church and thought I was sure to miss the fly-by.

Thankfully it took longer than the radio had said, and I was able to stop on the bridge over Frying Pan Road as it flew by - talk about incredibly close! I feel like I could have thrown a rock and hit the darn thing.

Yeah, I saw the T38s take off. If you blinked, you would have missed them. Way cool.

NYC is in for a treat next week when they take Enterprise up there. As long as the weather holds up, you should get excellent views.

Here’s a bunch of shots of the Shuttle Discovery flying into DC today – complete with multi-pass low-altitude flyover. It will be placed at Udvar-Hazy, and Enterprise is being moved to NY.

    I like particularly shots 12, 29 and 49.

In a town that takes itself pretty seriously, DC was a pretty funny place on Tuesday. People by the thousands blocking to rooftops, parking decks, and any open/park spaces to view all of the low-altitude flyovers. It was the lead story for all of the local TV news stations and media outlets ("live coverage from Udvay-Hazy..."). It was fun to watch (the spectacle in general). Can't wait to get over to the museum soon to see the new "old" shuttle.

My dad, retired USAF, said the T-38 was probably there to film the event.

Any New Yorkers see Enterprise flying around the Hudson today? My brother-in-law took some pics from Hoboken where he had a great view.
