We wore the black alternates in Chapel Hill in 2001 and 2003, the latter trek, of course, being the infamous Chris Collins-Matt Doherty donnybrook game. Speaking of which, boy do I ever miss the days of the early Sunday afternoon encounters. That was the rivalry at its finest.
The "purple" Chris Duhon era road jerseys were jaw-droppingly pretty.
Your memory is really bad on this one. Duke has owned the Nose Dome since 1999.
Duke Wins: (9)
1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012
Duke Losses: (5)
2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011
That's 9 out of 14, and UNC has not won 2 in a row at home against Duke since 1998, while Duke won 4 in a row at Chapel Hill. (Everyone remembers Hansbro winning 4 in a row in CIS, but no one ever remembers the Duke success at the dome)
I was referring specifically to when we wore the main blue/black road unis. What year did we switch to those ones? I know we wore the old school blue/white ones in 2004, but I don't know when we dropped those ones for good.
In the wins since 1999:
-00, 01, 06, 08, 10, we wore black alternates.
-04 we wore blue/white.
-12 wore blue/black regular roads. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this may have been the only year we've won in CHill wearing those. It's the only time I can remember.
In the losses:
-05, 07, 09, 11 wore blues/black regular road. 03 wore black alternate.
Can't find what we wore in 1999 or 2002.
Uniform doesn't matter, but I dunno, it's a cool random fact to look at in the offseason.
These threads always end up the same. Everyone always likes the late-90's, non black trim unis. Will someone please step up and tell us that they like the mid-90s chevrons, or the current black trim? Hello, anyone? anyone?
And, yes, I appreciate the guy that said he liked the gray unis. They were hideous, but way to take a stand.
favorite jersey includes anything in the early 90's and late 80's and all the black jerseys.
To address the various issues:
1. We wore blue in 1999 and black in 2000 and 2002 in the Dean Dump.
2. I prefer the Chevrons to our current home and roads (and I hate the Chevrons) ONLY because they were Duke Blue and White.
3. We wear black because K came up with the idea along with Nike (allegedly). They were to be introduced for the 1995-1996 season, but due to everything that happened in 1994-1995 (again, see the Chevrons), they were supposedly delayed for a year. In part, black had become a very cool color by the mid-90s and new pro teams were incorporating the color as part of their original color schemes; also, K has said in the past that the black projected toughness and that was why it was introduced.
Again, using black on rare occasions, and not in Chapel Hell, would be fine, if limited to that purpose. And as long has NO black were on the home and road uniforms. The original black uniforms with the white trim on the neckline, armholes, and waistband, were by far the best and perfectly matched the home and road jerseys.
