One game to go. Miguel Cabrera is up eight points in batting average, one home run and nine RBI. Consensus is a tie in HR will be sufficient to take the crown (as if he were Europe in the Ryder Cup). I'm rooting for him.

Perhaps Angel Cabrera can present the...um, trophy?

Looks like I was dead wrong about this one. Wonder what Vegas odds were before the season? Even crazier, guy who wins the Triple Crown might not win the MVP award. I think Trout deserves to win but Miggy will probably win over some voters over the next few days as the voters/media realize how significant of an event this is.

It really is a testament though that Miggy didn't have to sacrifice any power for his average which we often see as the tradeoff in today's game. It really is amazing.

I believe the most recent triple crown winner, Yaz, over 40 years ago, tied in HRs.

Golly, what happened to all those 50, 60, 70 homers per season hitters?

It is impressive that Miggy has done this in the AL- where you can hide a HR specialist at DH - and Miggy has played at 3B nearly every game.

The Jays' Encarnacion is only 2 HRs back, but hasn't played the last 2 days because of a sore neck/back.

Hamilton is only one HR back, and plays this afternoon. Cabrera might not need to play tonight to win.

I think Ted Williams would have something to say about that.

Why sit out if he has it wrapped up? I doubt he could have such a bad game as to lose 9 points in batting average. That said, it would be kinda dramatic if Trout went 3-4 today to make it close!

Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?

Cabrera only plays if Hamilton hits two homers this afternoon, and with the division on the line in Oakland, I would give Hamilton a good shot at feeling like he needs to belt two homers.

Yeah, falling behind Trout in batting average isn't very likely at all. Even 3-4 from Trout today would take an 0-8 day from Cabrera to change the leader, which obviously isn't going to happen. 4-4 however would at least give Trout an outside chance.
Demented and sad, but social, right?

    Miggy will play.

I will sit in my baseball cave and rock back and forth under my Tigers blanket.

Josh Hamilton doesn't care a fig about the batting championship today; he just wants his team to beat the A's and win the division. Now hitting HRs would help in this regard, but I don't think he will be swinging for the fences blindly.

Without info to the contrary, I expect Cabrera to play. That's the kind of guy he is.

I see your point. Still not sure Cabrera plays, just saying he doesn't have to, to gain the TC.

No home run for Hamilton today. I guess Encarnacion could still hit three, but he has none through three Blue Jay innings. So I think I'll vote now.

It's a shame the Tigers' game isn't on espn, because there's nothing else on teevee tonight worth watching, and certainly nothing going on here in Colorado.

I'm a lifelong Tiger fan and even remember Yaz winning the TC eventhough I was 5. Been a hectic last 2 weeks watching us struggle, then heat up right when the Sox started folding. To add a TC to it is just icing. Now let's do some damage in the play-offs. If the Tigs can win a series and the O's can then there must be a roady to Baltimore for a game!!!

All the people who have voted for the American League in the poll in the last week are really going out on a limb...

I am impressed with the person who recently voted for National League though.

Also, I did not realize that you could retract your vote. I saw that, people who took away their votes for horse racing...

Haha, this post is gold. I'd also like to know how to retract a vote, I'm all in on the NL vote.

Not that a tie negates the triple crown, but Curtis Granderson was just taken out due up for a shot to match Cabrera for the HR lead. I assume voluntarily. I'm pretty sure that's not an opportunity I'd ever give up.

Granderson was a Tiger a few years ago, may still have some allegiance.

    Ho Ho!

    He's the Miggety-Miggety Mack!

Pretty darned wicked cool, even without considering the demons Miggs has been battling for a while.

    Exceptionally proud of my Tiger!
