    Quinn Cook honored

    From ACC press release

"Virginia’s Mike Scott has been named ACC Player of the Week while Duke’s Quinn Cook was selected ACC Rookie of the Week.

Scott scored a career-high 33 points and had a game-high 14 rebounds in Wednesday’s 83-77 victory at Seattle University. The Chesapeake, Va., senior was 12-of-14 from the field (.857) and 9-of-11 (.818 percent) from the free-throw line as the 24th-ranked Cavaliers rallied from a two-point halftime deficit to post their eighth-straight win. Scott also had two assists and blocked one shot in 37 minutes of action.

Cook scored a career-high 14 points in Monday’s 90-63 win over UNC Greensboro. After a scoreless first half, the Bowie, Md., freshman guard went 6-of-6 from the field (1.000) with a pair of three-pointers in the second half. Cook added two assists and one steal in only 18 minutes of action for the fifth-ranked Blue Devils."

Cook being recognized as ACC Rookie-of-the-Week makes me happy. His performance in the 2nd half of the UNCG game was impressive. Hopefully his performance and the recognition garnered will provide Cook confidence and allow him to grow as a player. It will be interesting to follow Cook's playing time/stats over the next several games. I'm sure Cook's development was hindered by having to sit out the China trip games to allow his knee to fully heal, but hopefully his health issues are in the rear view mirror so we can see more and more of the talented freshman moving forward.

Quinn Cook wins second ACC Rookie of the Week award. Joins Rivers(3) as the only ACC rookies to be recognized more than once.

Uh, DBR, wouldn't ACC Rookie of the Week be the ROW, not ROY? Unless we're giving out that award for 2011 only

Not only that, but if I am counting correctly, Duke frosh now have 5 ROW awards to 3 for all other teams combined. I like those numbers. And Elizabeth Williams has picked up two ROW awards on the women's side as well.

Wow ROY! The ACC has prognosticated and seen that Cook is going to have a crazy great year and is giving him the ROY award before conference play even starts!

This has got to be a first and I think we can all be proud that it was a guy in a Duke uniform who did it.
